Two treatments for the same quilt, one using a light background, another the dark background. Which do you prefer?

Dark is DRAMA!

blueangel 09-28-2011 07:41 AM

I think I like the light.

Sadiemae 09-28-2011 07:42 AM

They are both beautiful, but I guess it would depend on where the quilt would be used...

mom-6 09-28-2011 07:45 AM

Make one of each! They're both gorgeous!

valleyquiltermo 09-28-2011 07:45 AM

I love them both. Sorry not much help.
I guess it depends on if your going for a calm quilt or a drama quilt. ;-)

Mad Mimm 09-28-2011 07:46 AM

Definitely the dark!!!

bearisgray 09-28-2011 07:47 AM

Wow - what a difference the change in background makes.

I think I like the light one better - but both are great!

Terryl 09-28-2011 07:49 AM

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I like the dark the best. (I usually lean towards lighter brighter colors)

LisaGibbs 09-28-2011 07:50 AM

I love the dark best. I love statement quilts!! They are more memorable.

greensleeves 09-28-2011 07:52 AM

Both are beautiful but I would go for the light on this one. And, I love the fabric!!

DottyD 09-28-2011 07:56 AM

Oh - what a decision - they are both nice. I think I have to go with the "dark" just a fraction more !!

LindaM49 09-28-2011 08:00 AM

It just might be your pictures but...I think the beautiful colors POP more on the lighter fabric. But I love the dark background too.

Hard choice but I like the light just a tiny bit better.

0tis 09-28-2011 08:01 AM

I like both - I vote for one of each..

ckcowl 09-28-2011 08:02 AM

BOTH!!! oh my goodness- 2 totally different looks- both dramatic- i love them both- it would depend on who the quilt was going to- the purpose- to decide which way to go- but i would want one of each!

QuiltnNan 09-28-2011 08:03 AM

i prefer the light background

Tartan 09-28-2011 08:05 AM

For impact, I prefer the dark background. It looks like a stainglass window. If I was going to put it on my bed, I think the light background. There isn't a lot of light in my bedroom and the dark one would look too dark in there.

wuv2quilt 09-28-2011 08:24 AM

They both look good! But, the black makes it POP! :)

Glassquilt 09-28-2011 08:29 AM

Make a two-sided quilt dark on one side & light on the other.
I like both.

joyce blint 09-28-2011 08:33 AM

I love working w black, but this time I think they are equally attractive. Just a matter of what look you're going for or where it'll be used.

SWEETPEACHES 09-28-2011 08:34 AM

Dark!

EagarBeez 09-28-2011 08:35 AM

I love them both, the light draws more attention to the flowers, which I assume is what you want to do. On the other hand the black is mystery draws away from the flowers

katier825 09-28-2011 08:36 AM

With those particular prints, I like the dark.

MoanaWahine 09-28-2011 09:02 AM

Dark!!

ghostrider 09-28-2011 09:17 AM

Dark...mostly because I love working with black, but also because, to me, all the seams in the light background distract from the visual impact.

nativetexan 09-28-2011 09:21 AM

oh golly. I like them both. black speaks to me more but both are lovely.

Kuusistoquilter 09-28-2011 09:21 AM

the black is beautiful.

Cheri_J 09-28-2011 09:28 AM

hard to decide - they both are great. If I had to choose, I would choose the lighter one.

RonieM 09-28-2011 09:30 AM

The light background is pretty, but the dark makes it POP!

Podunk Princess 09-28-2011 09:36 AM

I like the light background. Really surprised that I do because my choice is almost always the darker color. I think the light fabric helps balance the quilt more and is more restful to look at. IMHO Either way, it's beautiful!

luvspaper 09-28-2011 09:46 AM

Dark for me. The light just seems more washed out.

But I agree that it depends on what it will be used for!

nana20010 09-28-2011 09:48 AM

DARK MAKES it stand out

I am surprised at how many liked the light background. I like both, but I think the dark really makes the red flowers stand out. That surprises me too, since I usually don't go for the black background. Go figure.

Before I even saw the pictures I thought to myself that I would prefer the dark, because generally I like strong contrast

BUT...after seeing both pictures, I would choose the light background. I think the strong reds look better on the light background, and don't need the black for drama.

memepat 09-28-2011 10:14 AM

The dark makes the colors really pop out. If that is what you want go with the dark. If you want a more subdued effect go with the light. They are both beautiful - you will win either way.

Granny Quilter 09-28-2011 10:27 AM

I like the light better
