I've done plain meandering with good invisible thread.

Ultimately it is up to you as to how you want it to look. Whatever you chose will be the right choice.

My experience has only been with stitching in the ditch. I wondered what people did with log cabins.....if there was a design that would look nice on it or if I should stick to the ditch.

Thanks all-
Ginger

Lisa--when you say "dimensional quilting that follows the layout" what do you mean?

Sorry--I've only made 3 quilts and that was years ago. I'm just getting back into this.....

Thanks again Ladies!

Here are pics of a couple. The blue Log cabin is a pic of my 2nd quilt I ever made. It is hand-quilted in the ditch & then just did a kind of cross hatch in the border. I've done similar w/feathers in the outside borders & think they are really pretty.

The Court House Steps was done w/just diagonal lines all around the borders, as the top was made to be set up & quilted at a 100th Country Fair & the people who stopped & quilted were invited to "autograph" the top.

So depending on the size of your borders, anything is acceptable = like all quilts - it's your preference/choice.

Good luck & be sure & share pics of your finished quilt

It'll be beautiful, whatever you do! Follow your own instincts and you'll be happy! Welcome from Alabama!

Thanks for the pictures!

Shirley, I love the Court House Steps! What a neat idea. I had planned to go to a quilt fair this past weekend and I've broken my toe. Consequently no walking around for me until some time in November!

I also like your stitch/ditch with the diagonal lines thru it. That looks nice too.

Aww, what's a gal to do???

Thanks again!

OUCH - That's a bummer. Hope it doesn't slow you down for too long. (a good excuse to HAVE to "sit" & just quilt) ;-)

Take care & may all you quilts be filled w/love.

before my mid-arm I did a log cabin on my DSM. I used a WALKING FOOT and followed the disign lines, it was a barn raising layout, came out great!

Hi from Louisiana. Want to make a Log Cabin quilt someday. Good luck with yours.

I have done stitch in the ditch on the log cabin part and then did the scrolls on the borders, looks good. Good Luck
