Welcome and I almost always do a large stipple on most quilts. I can't stay in the ditch ( sloppy looking to me)so I will quilt straight lines about a 1/4" from the seam line.

It looks really good if you just stitch a straight line in the center of each log. It makes it look like two logs and more detailed. Very pretty.

I like variety that brings out the pattern of the piecing.
now I'am not much on desiding how to quilt a log cabin quilt, I have one top that is ready to quilt and I don't know how I want it quilted. I have got some good ideas here. |
I would be machine quilting and that would be in the ditch. I'm thinking about sending it out once I'm done and I wanted to get some ideas.

I saw a king sized LC quilt of 12" blocks where the straightaways of light were quilted with a continuous feather in a dark thread, and the straighaways of dark were quilted in a continuous feather of light thread.

I have seen Charismas quilting , lots of feathers and small circles onthe light Log Cabins, I just bought the Snake River Log Cabin, I will be taking feather classes in January at Quilting AT the Lake here in Lake Havasu, I understand that Chrismas quilting is free motion, her quilting is beautiful, feathers and little round circles, :? :lol:

Besides loving the photos and wisdom that everyone is sharing, I'm enjoying seeing all the beautiful fabric combinations that have been chosen.
I had never planned, nor thought of getting into free arm quilting, now with all of these it is a bug that has been placed on my brain!! |
Because I am a very experienced freemotion quilter I do feathers in the light in one direction and feathers in the dark in the other direction.
But an overall curved design, meandering, loops etc. is wonderful on something that has very sharp angles and straight lines. It softens the design. |
