Hey Barb,
I'm not too far, not real close either. Do you know where Haskell is?

You know, I don't have any quilting buddies here except at our church, and we make quilts there that go overseas to be walls for other people. I really enjoy this blog because everyone is my quilting buddy here. I have learned so much and don't feel alone in my quilting anymore.

heellie 04-06-2011 04:15 AM

I've noticed that alot of the people writing in do not have a location where they live ,I'm sure there must be a reason for this but when someone writes in asking to meet other quilters for buddies they have no idea where or if there's anyone near them.I bet there's lots of us who would like to take advantage of a buddy system. Not only newbies want to socialize with other quilters ,when we can't go to one of the big quilting shows or would like a show and tell or see new notions etc it would be good to meet other quilters near where we live.
I will start it off.I live in Langhorne Pa. if your from Pa. you know where that is I am a long arm quilter and am not in business.I do all my own piecing and quilting and almost always make queen size quilts.I would enjoy meeting or helping or socializing with other quilters near by.

Maybe others from other States would do the same thing introduce yourselves to near by quilters who struggle alone and needs a quiting friend.

Elaine from Pa. http://community.webshots.com/user/heellie

mshollysd 04-06-2011 04:29 AM

Elaine from PA, I totally agree. I went to the South Dakota page and saw how many were from SD and don't know who is close by. I am Holly from yankton SD. I only quilt for myself and donating and gifts. I don't long arm but I do alot of quilting on my home machine. Someday I would love to long arm but can't get the husband to give me more room or budget for the machine. thank you Elaine for bringing this up.

BarbZ 04-06-2011 04:34 AM

Pretty far away up here in Maine but with this board we are all only a click away. don't forget you can PM anyone also. Welcome. This is a great group to belong to. No shortage of buddies. Barb

I do hope you can find a buddy. There is nothing like one. Sorry I live so far away. I am in Big Cabin, OK but will be happy to email with you any time.

I'm not what you call overly sociable. Sadly, at 62 I learned that friends are difficult to find and sometimes harder to keep. I'm not what you call lonely, just would like someone who shares my joy of quilting and giving to others.
And horror or horrors, I've found only 1 quilt shop around here. Can you believe that? Just one!
So, if you live around Madison Co. and would like to make acquaintances, let me know. Maybe you know where there are other quilt shops nearby. With the cost of gas, a trip to Lexington is a luxury I really can't afford these days.

You have a Hobby Lobby on the Eastern By Pass that I really love. I live in Laurel Co. and don't get up there as often as I would like. If I lived there, I would visit it at least once a week. They have lots of fabric and notions and are cheaper than the quilt shops. They have different items on sale each week and they told me the sale prices are always posted on Mondays. I haven't been on the board very long either but love it. I spend too much time, like right now, on here instead of quilting. LOL
Good luck and hope you find someone closer for friendship.

I am in Western Mountain Maryland, Alleghany Co. I am between Cumberland MD & Keyser WV.
I quilt alone at home, well, my furbabies & hubby are here, but they don't sew, just look. Hubby works 3pm -11pm shift.
There are a few local guilds, but I don't like to go into town ( Cumberland ) much, been out in the rural area for awhile :-) and just enjoy it too much.
Will & can be a cyber buddy ! Have only been really serios into quilting the past few years, did mostly clothing before.
Any one can send a PM if they like ! :-)

lillybeck 04-06-2011 06:01 AM

I will be your friend in Fl. I think you will find that the majority of the people one here will be your friends even though we cannot be there with you, The folks here are great.

quiltingb1 04-06-2011 06:01 AM

I am in San Antonio, TX so too far away to get together but I would love to be a cyber buddy. I too am 62 and 5 years ago moved here to be closer to our kids and have not met any quilting friends. Would love to meet someone to go to lunch with and get together and quilt with so if anyone out there is from San Antonio and wants a friend, please pm me.

Hey! Move to Illinois and we can be buddies. I would love one! There is NO quilt shop in Yorkville...I have to go miles to get to one and would adore a buddy.  :-D

qbquilts 04-06-2011 06:43 AM

I'm in Jessamine County. We've got 3 quilt stores in Fayette County - one in Hamburg shopping center (exit 108), one off Nicholasville Road, and my favorite on Harrodsburg Road near the Jessamine County Line. The other two are only about 15 - 20 minutes off the interstate. I can give more precise directions if you want. I just finished my degree at EKU, so I'm quite familiar with driving back and forth from the Richmond area.

EDITED: Just realized you said the drive to Lex was a bit much. I work in Lex (even though I live in Jessamine County) and with having driven 2 - 4 times a week to EKU for nearly 2 years, I forgot how much of a drive it is if you're not doing it on a regular basis for something. Welcome anyway. Where is the store you're familiar with? I didn't realize there was one in Madison County.

Mad Gertie 04-06-2011 06:48 AM

Hello,

mimiof3 04-06-2011 07:50 AM

Sounds like I posted this. I am also 62. Sorry I"m far from you but would like to be cyber friends. I don't always log on (need to get into the habit of doing so) but I read the post everyday. PM me.

reeskylr 04-06-2011 07:55 AM

Buddy hunting! lol this post really started something. Cyber buddies are great too!

I live in Castle Rock Washington, which does have a quilt shop. Ten miles north in Longview/Kelso there are 3-4 more quilty shops, so I guess I'm blessed with them. There is a guild there, Lady of the Lake, but haven't contacted them, since I'm barely working and am short on funds these days.

But if any Washington buddies are nearby, it'd be great to know!

eidnolb 04-06-2011 08:19 AM

amyjo-I've been reading on this board for a long time, but have never made comments. I'm also from ND, it is tough to find affordable material even in Bismarck. I live near Center.
All on here post such lovely pics of quilts, mounds of great info and I truly enjoy visiting the board. Thanx all.

IdahoSandy 04-06-2011 08:42 AM

Next time you go to that fabric shop, ask some of the customers if there are other shops in the area, get into a conversation about quilting(you may make a friend there) and you can order fabric on line from www.connectingthreads.com. www.fabricshack.com, www.quiltfabriccloseout.com, www.thousandsofbolts.com along with www.keepsakequilting.com(they will send a catalog to you if you request it or you can shop on line in their catalog).
Some times I get lonely living by myself here in Idaho where I have no relatives. Don't go any place to meet friends. I met one friend at the Doctors office and two more are my neighbors. So I try to keep busy with my quilting and the lonely goes away.

Now I know. I'm glad you get to stay home with your baby. I took in sewing for others when my kids were small, that way I could be home with them. I think they need that, if you can do it. I'm glad to see a young person that is into quilting. I didn't have any girls, so no other quilter from here.

I have 4 girls, no boys. They all seem to be interested in sewing and quilting, except my oldest. The baby loves to go to the fabric store. She likes to feel the fabrics. It is so funny, we go down the isles with bolts across the front of the cart and her rubbing and and hugging them. She lets me know when one of them doesn't feel good too. I get lots of help folding and putting my fabrics away at home too. I just love it! :D

You are so lucky, four girls, bet you'll get at least one quilter out of them. I wanted four babies, but the good Lord didn't let me have any more. It was a good thing cause I divorsed their father, and had to make it on my own with two boys.
