I live in Kentucky, Madison Co. and I would like to know if there are any on here from this area? We haven't been here very long, less than a year and I really love the place, the people, the scenery. Just wish I had a quilting buddy close by that I could hang out with occasionally.
I'm not what you call overly sociable. Sadly, at 62 I learned that friends are difficult to find and sometimes harder to keep. I'm not what you call lonely, just would like someone who shares my joy of quilting and giving to others. And horror or horrors, I've found only 1 quilt shop around here. Can you believe that? Just one! So, if you live around Madison Co. and would like to make acquaintances, let me know. Maybe you know where there are other quilt shops nearby. With the cost of gas, a trip to Lexington is a luxury I really can't afford these days. |
Madison Co. isn't that down by Richmond? I'm up here in Gallatin county, a little far for coffee in the morning. But I'd be happy to be your friend, and so would the rest of the gal's on this board.
Wish I were closer!
That's great! Where is Gallatin Co. I live outside of Richmond, in the boonies! LOL!
Me, too!
I'm with you there. I don't think there is anyone close to were I live that could be my buddy. If anyone out there reads this and you live close to Pawnee,Ok. PM me and maybe we can get together. I would love to have a buddy.

We live too far apart or I would love to be your quilting friend. I live on the west side of Kentucky lake in Calloway county. I'm sure there has got to be someone on the QB that lives close to you.
Well, I think we can just be friends anyway. Might just do all our communicating on this board, but hey, whatever works, ya know!
I read your post and wondered if I had posted that myself. I'm in the same boat as you, only I live in Oregon. Yes, only 1 LQS here too. I can't be close for us to hang out with, but I am always here! Long distance buddies are great to have. I have one friend whom I've never met, but she feels like a sister and she lives in Australia! In some ways, I value her friendship more than others that I have met over the years. Kick it around in your mind for a bit, but I would really enjoy being considered a buddy to you! :-)

I'm open for buddies fomr all over the place. With the www, the world is a lot smaller than it used to be. Just think you might be three thousand miles away, but I can't answer your call in seconds. Friends? You betcha! My name is Linda!

Possum Trot, KY is almost as far west in Kentucky as you can get .... wishing you luck in finding someone close to you... but as you can see, this group is a crazy, silly bunch that is always available and willing to help...just a finger stroke away.
I think we would a like to be buddies. All the people in my neighborhood have either moved to town or died. so I am happy to be anyones buddy. we have 2 quilt stores in Minot, Joanns and Hobby Lobby. Bismarck is 2 1/2 hr away and only rarely get there. they have several including a Hancocks I believe. they closed down in Minot and the sale prices were higher than when they were in business. you could only bu at the sale if you had cash and they didn't put those notices up large enough for any one to see until after they had shopped.

Sorry far from you but how about another cyber buddy? Please tell me about your projects and do you have pictures of your quilts? I am 47 and have a lot of children so I am mostly home. Several of my friends quilt but overal I quilt on my own and check in frequently on the board.
North Dakota! I don't think I've ever had a friend in ND! I welcome you as a friend. Say, do you live near the indian reservation? Have you ever visited there? I'll bet you could ind some beautiful fabrics there. I am part Cherokee, and my grandmother made some gorgeous quilts!

A lot of kids, huh? I had five. Oldest daughter died twenty years agto this coming Oct at the age of 24. I have 12 grandkids and 1 great grand daughter with another on the way. Made a few quilts over the years, but only started in July of 2000. I've made over twenty wuilts in that time, but never even thought to take pix of them. I do have one of the quilt I made for my d-i-l, but haven't quilted it yet. I do all my quilting by hand. Can't seem to get the hang of machine quilting, and to me, that kind of takes away from the handmade feeling. Just me, I guess. Too old to try to change these spots now.! LOL!

I love that name! Possum Trot! How country! Hi! Let's be friends anyway. These days distance is just numbers!

Hand quilting is wonderful. The quilt tends to be softer and drapes more. I realy do not hand quilt much any more. I would like to do some traditional Hawaiian style quilts and needle turn and hand quilt those but for now I only have a small pillow top in progress with that method. |
I wish we lived close enough to go for coffee together, but remember that as long as you have Internet you have more than 27,500 friends on QB!
Another idea is to check this site, which lists quilting guilds by state: http://www.quiltguilds.com/kentucky.htm The first impression of that page is that there's nothing, but for some reason you have to scroll way down to see the long list. Maybe there's one near you? |
Linda, I live in Lexington, and there are so many of us from KY on here, you are sure to find lots of friends. I can't drive anymore, so I'm pretty much around all the time. Start watching the avatar of people who post and you will see many from KY. And they are all great ladies! You can send a PM anytime to anyone by clicking on their name, including me! Glad to meet you! Carol

Hi Linda, I live in Northern Ky but I had to look up Madison County to find out where it is. You're not that far from Berea. I love going to Berea. Hmm, maybe there are some quilt shops near Berea. It might be time for a road trip.
Hi! I am from Cincinnati. Wish I was closer.
Hi Linda,
I am in Utah. I love this board, I have met so many fun people on here. I can be a cyber buddy. I have 5 children, my oldest son died 2 1/2 years ago. He would be 26 this July 4th. I have a daughter that is 23 and last year had a baby girl, a daughter 20 and a boy 16 and one 13. I love quilting and I homeschool my boys. I also crochet and love to cook, especially in the dutch oven. Kathy in Utah aka hsquiltingmom |
sure hope you find a quilt buddy, I am still looking for one here the the far western part of Ky!
HI LINDA,I;m from Somerset alittle bit closer than some of the others, but still to far away to meet for coffee.I;d love to be your friend though.I have two children and one grandson and I love to quilt
I can be your "internet buddy". I am WAY too far from you to visit but we can chat all you want...Just give me a PM :!:
You can also do a search using the "User List" at the top of the page. Just do a search by location. I'm sure you will find LOTS of Kentucky quilters listed! Good luck to you finding someone close by. If you don't find someone near you, there are hundreds and hundreds of buddies to choose from on here!!!
The last time I looked I think there was like 99 or 100 KY quilters on the board
Someone else checking in from KY, I'm in Somerset also. I know I've seen someone on here from Richmond just can't remember who it was. Check with the University of Kentucky extension office in your county, some have very active quilt guilds.
I drive to the reservation every mmonth for 2-3 weeks. No material there.
Ther sure is a lot quilter from Kentucky. I wonder how many are from Oklahoma?
i don't think there are any more on here from North Dakota. I have seen some from MN. a couple from South Dakota.
Long distance buddies can be fun also. You can share what you are sewing on or just what your day will be like today.
Since I moved to another state my best friend calls me between 630am and 7 am every morning, I'm always up, and we share what we are doing that day or just say good morning. :) |
Here's hoping you find a quilting buddy .... I know the feeling. I would like the same after life settles down a bit. Oh heck, if put restraints on "when" it may never happen.
Hope someone reads your post and responds! |

Just checked, there is a whole page of ND quilters!:) |
I lived in Smithland for 11 years and loved it. The people in Kentucky are really great to know, once THEY let you get to know them. Once you do get to know them they'll do anything they can to help you. To them you're a stranger in "their parts".
When we moved there, from the suburbs of Chicago the neighbor nextdoor told us how it would be and boy she was right! I have the same problem with making friends here in Ga. I have custody of an 11 year old granddaughter (I'm 65) and don't have any friends to pal around with either. I think it's because the mothers of her friends are young enough to be my daughter so they don't want to be around me. The ladies my age see me with my granddaughter all the time so they don't want to be around me either. The neighbors are cordial but I never get invited to anything. They all come here for sewing or free embroidery or plants when I'm dividing, etc. but never invite me to go shopping or to any functions they have. But that's o.k. I have my family and I'm very happy to take my granddaughter with me. She loves to sew and garden. When I go to JoAnn's or Hancock's she's rummaging through all the fabric for her next project. I can't get out of Lowe's or Home Depot's garden center without spending money on flowers and seed for her. Just be patient and give it some time, you'll find friends there and when you do you'll have a friend for life. I met one of my best friends, been friends for about 15 years now, at an embroidery class at a machine dealer when we both bought a new embroidery machine. She used to live in Kentucky too but she now lives in TN. We can't see each other but we talk everyday! |
