looking for honest opinions!

i thought i would just quilt this with simple nested squares, but then the cable idea occurred.
i REALLY don't know if it's awesome or terrible. what says qb? thank you! aileen |
I like it. Pretty quilt!!

seems i feel it's not a quilt unless it has some kind of cable. snork!
I think it looks good. But I do understand your struggle with wanting to get the right quilting. I have felt like I have ruined a quilt by how I quilted it.
You have to be happy with it... but I do like it. How are you going to quilt the rest? |
Your quilted cables look great!
It looks super nice to me. I would have put double rows of the cables in each section to add more interest.
The rest will have very minimal sid. It's so linear there's nothing else to do without destroying the lines.
Thank you so much! a |
It is not bad but it would have been better if it could be a little wider to fill the space. Just my honest opinion.
I like some curvy quilting on geometric piecing. But it does seems like it needs a little more quilting to fill in the space between the outer edges of the cables and the black lines. What about another couple of curvy lines to echo the cable curves? Or some narrow straight lines of matchstick quilting on either side of the narrow black sashing lines? I really like this quilt!!
To me cables don't really go with FLW, but you did a nice job on them.
I like the cables, but I think nested squares would have looked better. Just my opinion, LOL
Nice way of quilting a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired quilt!!!😎

Feeling stupid, but I don't know what the nested squares quilting looks like. Can you point me to a picture? I like your cables and think you did a great job! Home machine or long arm? Did you mark them or free motion? While, I like the cables, I don't think they're quite right for this quilt. Or maybe there just needs to be additional quilting surrounding and emphasizing the cables.

My opinion only - - -
I understand the idea of curves to contrast with linear - but if it were mine - it would all be linear. Stitch in the ditch around every black piece - and a grid or something linear to fill up the white spaces. Your cables are nicely done, but I would like straight lines better on this quilt. |
Since you asked, I have to agree that linear quilting would have been more fitting for this quilt. The cables are nicely done though, just don't stay with the theme of FLW. Sorry
Just have to add, I recently auditioned some quilting on a quilt, micro quilting at that and did not like it. Can I say, picking that out is a pain! |
Maybe you could { Echo Quilt} along your cables to fill the space- give them some balance. They turned out nice, just kind of out of place- too narrow for the space
The cable softens the linear look of the rest of the quilt. I like it!
Normally I would say add curves to balance out the straight lines but that is what FLW is about. I think something like cross hatch or mimicking the chevron piecing would fit better. By the way, you did a nice job with the cable stitching
I agree with the suggestion of echo quilting on each side-to anchor the cables in the spaces. I'm one who finds a mix of curved and linear quilting on a geometric pattern very pleasing. Having said this I would choose one other area to include curved quilting for balance if it were mine. Really lovely quilt!!!
I agree that the cables are well done but not exactly in keeping with the linear nature of Frank Lloyd Wright designs. If you don't want to pick out, though, maybe you could quilt a line or two between each cable and the side of each block . I'm thinking there's a stitch that looks like those "arrow feathers" in the blue section at the top of the picture. It needs more quilting beside the cables and lines would do it.
I like it a lot!
The cables look really good and the pattern is awesome.
Yeah. They're gonzo. I came home from work and decided that I really don't like them. Glad I stopped half way!
Sometimes one has to try something to decide if one likes it or not!

I really like the cable. it looks great
I love your cable idea and your quilt is beautiful. Love the colors!
Love the quilt but, sorry, but I don't like the quilting. FLWright was all about the linear. I would have used a derivation of the upper pattern.
I really like it. I agree that some curvy quilting looks good with all those straight lines. Someone said a little wider or two rows of cables to fill the space and I think that would be good, too.
I'm glad you decided you were not happy with them. I think a more linear approach is needed on the quilting, something a little more modern. I am guessing you posted already knowing what you should do. Sometimes for an unpleasant task such as taking out beautiful stitches such as yours we just need a little push from others to validate our own thoughts. Pinterest probably has this pattern with many different types of quilting for you to review. Can't wait to see your next version!
I love it.....it gives it just the right amount of quilting and not take away the beauty of your top.
I like a minimum of quilting and this seems to work....too much quilting takes away from the lovely design...IMHO
I like it........and would also add stitch in the ditch on all the seams.....would be the finishing touch. :) Also, would make it so there wasn't so much space between the quilting -- which can lead to problems when it's washed.
I really like your cable quilting. Lovely quilt.
