I'm told that this pattern is from the 1930 time period, and am looking for a pattern to make it , or where I can find it. Can anyone help?

some say it is called Engagement Ring or Diamond Ring

Have looked at those names but can't find it ....will continue to search...have several books with over 5000 blocks listed....will take a litttle time...ok?

I did a search too and could find Grandmothers Engagement Ring pattern but it wasn't like this one...I bit different.....beautiful pattern....hope you can find it!

Have downloaded the picture you gave....It is an interesting block....looks like they melded two together as the wedding ring shape is very apparent and yet it is squared with the other one...Cool will keep looking....Another thing you can do is trace the block...and then use graph paper or EQ5/6 if you have either and create pattern and templates from there...Maybe Patrice could assist you....if so...would be interested in copy of pattern. Also check Library for books about patterns of that time.
PS...I think I have some of those fabrics.

since Sandra has some of the fabrics in the photo, this may be a modern pattern that honors the 30s style. the pattern may be an unpublished original.

Recreating the pattern would be very easy but I'd have to know more about the quilt in the photo before i jumped to the conclusion the design was in the pulic domain.

Patrice...they are from my grandmothers fabrics. But I too think it may be an original pattern...the curve remains in the block which if it were a new pattern is not as likely....

ok. Granny's fabrics take it back to the comfort zone.

it looks like a cross between a wedding ring and a Friendship Knot from 1932.

SandraJennings 07-24-2007 03:31 PM

BINGO! Sister! You hit it...it is a friendship Knot and wedding ring...It is the placement of the colors that tweak it a bit. It is an interesting meld of the two. and it is how she/he utilized the arc to join the pieces that made it harder to find. Wil endavor to get my printer hooked back in so can send the pics to you and maybe you can sort a pattern? GAME? The only other that comes close is the Wreath of Lilies. Will send you both see what you think.K?

This site talk about this type of quilt and says early part of 20th century for a date

this seems like a single ring pattern and I read that the double wedding ring was developed from this

You just gotta love how we gals come together to help. It is so cool. I like how they pieced the inside arc....my patterns all show it single color..Gives it a whole new dimension.
