Looking for ruler

I hope someone can help me, I'm trying to make Eleanor Burn's Peony pattern from her Egg Money Book. She makes flying geese with 2 different sized sqs. sews corner to corner all 4 corners then cuts, uses some sort of flying geese ruler she makes. I'd like to use the usual flying geese which is easy. Hers is complicated and wasteful. Anyone??????

Then you don't really need a special ruler - take a rectangle, sew squares on two corners, trim and press. Much more wasteful than EB's technique.

I actually made flying geese on my last quilt using EB's ruler, and it wasn't wasteful or complicated. Only a couple of slivers of fabric were lost in the process, and the geese came out perfectly. I thought it was a big time saver over the methods that are completely waste-free. However, you can make geese using any method you like and the quilt will look the same.

Here is a video tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Co on how to use Eleanor Burn's ruler. I think it makes more sense when you see someone doing the method

I don't think EB's method is wasteful at all. I use her method when
I have to make lots of FG. Of course you can use any method you like.

i agree that EBs method is not wasteful. i've wanted to get her ruler, but couldn't afford it early on. so i used a regular ruler just lining up the top and side measurements on my ruler. i'm so used to it now, i don't need to buy yet another ruler :)

Just watched the video tutorial re: El. Burns flying geese. Thanks for the info, now after seeing it makes sense. Just have to find the ruler.

I like the no-waste method that is the second method on this tute:

It takes a bit of getting used to, but I hate the waste of the method described in the video or the rectangle/ small squares one.

My only beef is she has a small and large geese ruler. You can get both for $14 or $7 a piece. Yet although it means keeping up with 2 rulers, even I can make perfect geese with her rulers. I haven't found there to be a lot of fabric waste, just keeping up with 2 rulers.

Dunster and Berry -- when I've used that method, depending on the size of the geese, I end up cutting 1 inch off the side. How do you make your with less waste?
