These are the machines I have used for FMQ meandering up to and including Viking Sapphire 830, Elna 310, and Babylock Jane. The Jane is similar to the Juki 2010 - my dealer gave me a deal on it so I bought it instead of the Juki. I have had great success with each of these machines over the year.

What you want in a machine is the biggest throat you can find and the ability to put your feed dogs down.

If you plan to use the machine just for FMQ then you could get one of the straight-stitch machines. They are pretty equal as far as construction goes and they get the job done. The brands have already been named. If you want to use the same (new) machine for additional sewing, then you need to figure out what features are important and start from there. Happy hunting.

Any machine can do FMQ...right on back to the old treadles! What I would be looking for is throat space in my price range.

This is a good point. A lot of machines have their feet interchangeable. So if you have machines now that you like you might check into that brand. Along with that if you have dealers in your neighborhood, check out all of the different machines and the warranties and customer support before you buy.
