Hi Jill ~ I used this idea but did them without binding. They were so much fun to make! They don't look nearly as finished as yours but I used scrappy fabrics so it works :thumbup:

I love to use Jill's method though I sometimes sew on an angle. I think you you add a a 3/4 inch or thereabout border around it and even if you do birthing method it would look as if it were bound.

I make any 12 inch block I like. Then I add a one -two inch border all around the block. Then I add a pieced border on the outside on the sides of flying geese or something eye catching.
