I made a quilt and sent it to my SIL who is going through Chemo treatments for Ovarian cancer and it appears to be lost. It was suppse to arrive at her house in MD the day the hurricaine hit, and it is still not there. The USPS cannot find any info when trying to track it. Back to the drawing board. I'll have to make her another one!

mymsmess 09-02-2011 03:28 AM

OH NO!!!!!!! Hopefully it will show up soon.

Tinabodina 09-02-2011 03:34 AM

I am so sorry to hear that! I will keep my hopes up that it still shows up, so don't give up.

joym 09-02-2011 03:40 AM

so sorry this happened...hopefully, it will show up soon

sweetpea 09-02-2011 03:46 AM

I hope it can be found and returned, but if not may the person that finds it. see that it go's to a good home. You may never know the good you missing quilt can do for somebody that has lost everthing. would it be nice if this is how it all worked out. Here hopeing that your quilt got to the right person. {your sister}

sueisallaboutquilts 09-02-2011 04:26 AM

Deb, I wouldn't give up on it. I use USPS a lot and have never (shouldn't say that!) had anything lost yet.
I better go knock on my wood table lol

Best wishes to your SIL.

eparys 09-02-2011 04:32 AM

So sorry to hear about your SIL - hopefully the quilt will show up!

thequilteddove 09-02-2011 04:38 AM

:( I pray it will show up!

nycbgirl 09-02-2011 04:48 AM

I'd wait for another week or two before I started on another quilt. It may show up....I hope it does!

purrfectquilts 09-02-2011 05:19 AM

Did you use delivery confirmation? Even if you did not, have the post office check with the route delivery person on duty that day. They might remember. But, it is all a long shot. Good luck.

blueangel 09-02-2011 05:34 AM

I hope and pray it shows up.

yolanda 09-02-2011 05:35 AM

I had a lost quilt arrive back at the senders two months later ...

TheSevenYearStitch 09-02-2011 05:36 AM

Oh no! Put it up on http://www.lostquilt.com

sandpat 09-02-2011 05:42 AM

Hopefully it will show up yet.....I'm sure there were quite a few delays during all the devastation from Irene! Fingers crossed for you!

There's a note (well it was there yesterday) on the UPS site saying deliveries were still delayed due to the storm. I agree with nycbgirl and wait a bit unless you want to make a gift quilt to have in your stash.

Annie68 09-02-2011 05:54 AM

Praying it will show up. I'm sure it's somewhere delayed because of the storm, hopefully out of harm's way.

wvdek 09-02-2011 05:56 AM

What a bummer. I agree, give UPS time due to storm problems. Otherwise keep after UPS - don't give up. If it doesn't show up, I agree with Sweetpea.

mamaquilts 09-02-2011 05:56 AM

I feel for you.

I would give it a few more days before starting a new one. It might just be delayed.

I sent a quilt to a friend about 8 years ago and it never showed up. Has never been seen since either. After that loss, I made sure to include both addys inside the box and I now use a mailing bag with the information listed on it too inside any box I send. I'm not willing to lose another quilt that way. Oh and I make sure to have delivery confirmation too.

mhansen6 09-02-2011 06:00 AM

I am so sorry. This is why I always send my important packages UPS. I get a tracking number and can watch it online. I just don't trust the Post Office. I really hope they find it.

bamamama 09-02-2011 06:08 AM

I insured it. The rules say you have to fill out a mountain of paperwork and show proof of value! How do you prove the value of something handmade? It is certainly worth more than the $200 I insured it for. That would maybe cover the fabrics but never my time. I am praying that it shows up this week, just delayed by the storm!

MrsM 09-02-2011 09:17 AM

Oh what a loss for you both. Hopefully it will show up soon!

Jim's Gem 09-02-2011 09:38 AM

I sure hope it will arrive soon!!!

Yes all that and lots of INS and a pic of quilt in your photo album. With everyone praying for the quilt it should show up. Best of luck to you.

bigsister63 09-02-2011 09:46 AM

Sorry to hear about you SL and the quilt. When I mail something special or expensive I insure it and use Delivery confirmation. Cost is minimal compaired to the price of a lost item.

cairns 09-03-2011 02:49 AM

As soon as you make a new one it will show up.
If not someone has a work of art.
So sorry :-(

DanaNVa 09-03-2011 04:31 AM

The mail has probably been delayed. Parts of MD around the DC Metro area still do not have power, so it is understandable that there might be a delay in getting USPS packages shipped "ground".

bamamama 09-03-2011 04:49 AM

It showed up late yesterday!!!! So happy!

joycecil 09-03-2011 04:58 AM

I am so sorry! I hope it shows up!!

vivoaks 09-03-2011 05:16 AM

So glad it showed up!!! With hurricanes, things like that are bound to happen.... just thrilled for a happy ending!!

carla m 09-03-2011 05:17 AM

i wouldnt count on the usps finding anything i mailed my brother a hat and my neices some gift cards march 19th and theres no sign of them yet. i canceled the gift cards but i cant find another cap like the one i mailed him so i guess he just goes without. so now i bite the bullet and fed ex everything so far no problems with that its just expensive.
its no wonder the post office is going broke when my pkg was lost i complained on the phone online and everywhere possible i only got one phone call about my pkg some guy at the distribution center in dallas really looked hard for it buti guess it never made it that far. no one else seemed to care. im thinking when it hit ok city it went north instead of south.
carla

Noiseynana 09-03-2011 05:29 AM

I just knew with all our prayers it would turn up, Thank God. I'm happy for you.

Val in IN 09-03-2011 06:10 AM

I agree with the posts abve, give it a few days. Don't give up hope.

llpilgr1 09-03-2011 06:13 AM

Don't give up yet! I sent my daughter's wedding dress to her at an APO while she was stationed overseas via USPS -- it took about 10 WEEKS to get to her, when mail normally took about 10 days. I dont' know where the dress was or if someone decided that it had a lot of sentimental value, but it did eventually turn up in the original condition. Meanwhile, will keep you in my prayers!

grannypat7925 09-03-2011 06:16 AM

Did you have it insured? Maybe it will turn up yet.

llpilgr1 09-03-2011 06:16 AM

Glad it showed up!

MargeD 09-03-2011 07:08 AM

How terrible, but perhaps it will show up, as it was probably misplaced. It's a shame that happened, especially for the reason you make the quilt in the first place. I'm not Catholic, but isnt' there a St. that you can pray to for lost things? If not, there should be, or maybe just pray for the lost to be found. Hope you get it back soon.

Quiltinelaine 09-03-2011 08:52 AM

I made a crocheted afgan for my niece and my son mailed it, but did not put insurance on it. Sure enough it was lost in the mail. Never again will I send something that doesn't have insurance. Guess this is how we learn:::

CoventryUK 09-03-2011 08:58 AM

So pleased there is a happy ending to your story!!!

GreatStarter 09-03-2011 09:02 AM

Oh, just read it apparently showed up. I am so glad.

Kat
