Background:
I live in a town with 10,000 people and one wonderful quilt shop. A friend and I took our first class there about a year and a half ago and have been hooked ever since. We are part of the Farmer's Wife Sampler club and are in and out of there a lot. One particular clerk is our best help - we don't know her outside of the shop, but feel like friends from our frequent associations there.

So ... we each got this message from our Friend Clerk earlier this week:
I have a challenge for both of you! It will only take a day from start to finish. You can work together, but on 2 different projects. You both have to agree. and you will need 3 yards of fabric you love and 3/4 of yard of matching fabric.. I have bought 2 patterns for you. (yours to keep no copy right laws will be broken) you must pick your fabric out 1st before you see the project and you must tell me on what day you both will be done. I am working Thursday and Friday ARE you ready for this?
just say yes..

So tomorrow we're going in to select fabric and see what this is all about. (I'm getting some $3.99 promotional fabric. I've been wanting it, but usually buy 3 coordinating fabs and there are only two of this line on the sale shelf.)

What do you think? We don't know if lots of people got this message. Doesn't matter. Sounds like fun!

I would be less surprised if she had picked the fabric first! She has great taste and never loses patience with my matchy-matchy views. In fact, the fabric I have in mind is VERY matchy-matchy!

That's part of the joy of Mystery Quilts ... you pick the fabric, though you don't know what it will become.

One of our LQS' often does a Mystery Day ... and also sometimes has a Mystery Quilt with their retreats.

Just signed up for another Mystery Quilt that's 8 monthly instalments. Went thru my stash to find the 3 fabrics that I needed, though had to purchase one of the 3. Thankfully, I had the first two! Hope this weekend to start my cutting and sewing for Month #1.

A mystery quilt where you get to pick the fabric! Sounds like fun.

Fascinating! I did a mystery quilt last year at retreat and it turned out great. It was a challenge because it was way out of my comfort zone but I'm glad I did it. Can't wait to see the results!
