You're right- they are fun!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I used really thin paper and a shorter stitch. Tearing wasn't a problem. These fabrics are from the Log Cabin I just made and sent to the LA Can't wait to show you when I get it back. |
Lovely colors! As I'm sure you found out, making them is addictive!
They look fabulous. Don't you love mindless stitching?

Jane, yes I do. It's so relaxing! Here's a larger pic:Most of the fabric is from Moda Nest- I fell in love with them.

Oh how great!!! sometime back I bought some papers from MSQlts and I just found them again. I usually just sew strips without any foundation. i guess I will use them someday soon. Keep on going!!!!
They are so addicting!!!!!! And I have tons of fabric left.
Maybe I'll wallpaper my whole house with them :D |
Very pretty, love these.
good job
They are so pretty! Now you have me wanting to try some string blocks!
I love making strings as well however I don't buy special paper. I like not being restricted to the size of the paper so I just get a box of parchment paper at the dollar store. I don't recall how many squares I got out of each box but I think it's 12 1/2 inches so that is what I use pretty much, unless I want to make them smaller. Your strings are very pretty.

Beautiful strings...
Very pretty string blocks Susie. I knew you could do it, so easy and fun, many ways to make them. Good for you.

Your string blocks are so pretty. They are going to make a beautiful quilt. Love all of the fabrics you are using.
Yeah, I have to agree about them being addicting.
A tip about that little triangular piece at the end of your blocks. How many of us have thrown away thousands of little triangles every time we snow-ball something. Those little triangles work great as the last "strip" on your string blocks.
Pretty colors. Should be a nice quilt for you.
Wow! These are wonderful! I did a bunch of these a couple of years ago... now where did I put them!? I have tons of scrapes and these look like a fun way to use them. Please show us the quilt when it's finished!
Very pretty. I love blues, mauves, purples and teals. Never thought of using peach or green with them
Happy to hear you had some fun. Your blocks are nice. Now for more fun with designing your quilt! I've made many string blocks. I use telephone book pages. The paper is thin and the old books get repurposed!
Mavisk- you're right. As I was cutting down the blocks I realized I have some small triangles that would be perfect for the ends.
I'm not a scrap saver so this is a new adventure for me. And I may change my thinking about scraps! |
Love making strip/string quilts. I have so many strings, I could probably sew forever. Love your blocks; please show when finished.
Fun! String blocks are my favorite thing to make!
Cute! I need to learn how to do this, love that fabric line too!
Nice string blocks.
Just read this and did "a whack on the head", and headed for my trash basket. I just finished making a whole bunch of these blocks and have a whole bunch of these triangles that I will be fishing out of basket. Thanks for this idea:)
They are fun to do. Love the colors you used. It will be so pretty when done. I find it interesting how such a simple strip block can be just as beautiful as some of the most intricate piecing.
Great Job. and now that you caught the bug.... I'm sure we'll see more in your quilts in the future.
SusieQOH I don't have strings for some reason I have bits so I made a crumb quilt. Your string quilt would be a perfect colour match for my front room. :-)

Oh SusieQOH: Yes, you do want to know because they are fun also. Mind you doing strings is a little bit easier. Crumbs are your smallest pieces and of course that is subjective. I just went and got my flimsy and measured, a lot of my pieces are 3" x 2" or 1" by at the most 4". Crumbs embrace every shape but mine are almost all straight edges, I am still young at sewing so not really confident to use curves but I have tried to put in diagonals. I was given a bunch of scraps and last Christmas I was recovering from the flu. I had been working on a BOM and was afraid to continue with it as I knew I really didn't have too many brain cells active soooo, I just started putting these scraps together with nothing much in mind until I had a handful of squares and realized I should/could actually do something with them. I trimmed them to 6 1/2", used a small green and white check for sashing (1"finished) with a darker cornerstone. I have been very surprised at the response I have had, everyone likes it. I am going to try (again) to post pictures. I need to learn to do this. If you have any more questions I am happy to try to answer.
Thank you, Kelsie! Could you post a pic?
SusieQOH: My apologies. Surgery and life have gotten in the way. I went and got the camera out the other day and dead batteries. I did try to post before but couldn't get it to work. Busy for the next couple days but I have not forgotten.
Kelsie- no worries! Hope you're on the mend. That's the important thing :)

This new computer does not like our camera but perhaps it will work
The rust border at the top will be put on all around. Can anyone tell me why Louise is sideways and how do I fix/prevent it?
Kelsie, that is beautiful!!! The only thing I know is to right click and when it says view image it comes up the right way. I use a mac- not sure if it works on a PC or not.
Thanks so much for remembering to post it. I love it :) |
No SusieQ it didn't give me that option.
