You're right- they are fun!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in.

I used really thin paper and a shorter stitch. Tearing wasn't a problem.
These fabrics are from the Log Cabin I just made and sent to the LA
Can't wait to show you when I get it back.

sprice 08-03-2018 04:40 AM

Lovely colors! As I'm sure you found out, making them is addictive!

Jane Quilter 08-03-2018 04:42 AM

They look fabulous. Don't you love mindless stitching?

Jane, yes I do. It's so relaxing! Here's a larger pic:Most of the fabric is from Moda Nest- I fell in love with them.

nativetexan 08-03-2018 04:53 AM

Oh how great!!! sometime back I bought some papers from MSQlts and I just found them again. I usually just sew strips without any foundation. i guess I will use them someday soon. Keep on going!!!!

SusieQOH 08-03-2018 05:03 AM

They are so addicting!!!!!! And I have tons of fabric left.
Maybe I'll wallpaper my whole house with them :D

Wanabee Quiltin 08-03-2018 05:44 AM

Very pretty, love these.

QuiltnNan 08-03-2018 05:53 AM

good job

NZquilter 08-03-2018 05:56 AM

They are so pretty! Now you have me wanting to try some string blocks!

Ariannaquilts 08-03-2018 06:07 AM

I love making strings as well however I don't buy special paper. I like not being restricted to the size of the paper so I just get a box of parchment paper at the dollar store. I don't recall how many squares I got out of each box but I think it's 12 1/2 inches so that is what I use pretty much, unless I want to make them smaller. Your strings are very pretty.

Homespun 08-03-2018 07:04 AM

Beautiful strings...

Jingle 08-03-2018 11:46 AM

Very pretty string blocks Susie. I knew you could do it, so easy and fun, many ways to make them. Good for you.

They are addicting! I had so much fun making my string quilt top that I'm already planning another one!

Jordan 08-03-2018 02:43 PM

Your string blocks are so pretty. They are going to make a beautiful quilt. Love all of the fabrics you are using.

sandy l 08-04-2018 03:21 AM

Yeah, I have to agree about them being addicting.

maviskw 08-04-2018 03:28 AM

A tip about that little triangular piece at the end of your blocks. How many of us have thrown away thousands of little triangles every time we snow-ball something. Those little triangles work great as the last "strip" on your string blocks.

bneuen 08-04-2018 03:29 AM

Pretty colors. Should be a nice quilt for you.

SillySusan 08-04-2018 04:08 AM

Wow! These are wonderful! I did a bunch of these a couple of years ago... now where did I put them!? I have tons of scrapes and these look like a fun way to use them. Please show us the quilt when it's finished!

CR 08-04-2018 05:39 AM

Very pretty. I love blues, mauves, purples and teals. Never thought of using peach or green with them

Rhonda Lee 08-04-2018 06:49 AM

Happy to hear you had some fun. Your blocks are nice. Now for more fun with designing your quilt! I've made many string blocks. I use telephone book pages. The paper is thin and the old books get repurposed!

SusieQOH 08-04-2018 06:52 AM

Mavisk- you're right. As I was cutting down the blocks I realized I have some small triangles that would be perfect for the ends.
I'm not a scrap saver so this is a new adventure for me. And I may change my thinking about scraps!

sash 08-04-2018 06:56 AM

Love making strip/string quilts. I have so many strings, I could probably sew forever. Love your blocks; please show when finished.

AngeliaNR 08-04-2018 07:00 AM

Fun! String blocks are my favorite thing to make!

PamelaOry 08-04-2018 09:15 AM

Cute! I need to learn how to do this, love that fabric line too!

ccthomas 08-04-2018 02:50 PM

Nice string blocks.

sandy l 08-05-2018 03:30 AM

Just read this and did "a whack on the head", and headed for my trash basket. I just finished making a whole bunch of these blocks and have a whole bunch of these triangles that I will be fishing out of basket. Thanks for this idea:)

ube quilting 08-05-2018 03:35 AM

They are fun to do. Love the colors you used. It will be so pretty when done. I find it interesting how such a simple strip block can be just as beautiful as some of the most intricate piecing.

tuckyquilter 08-05-2018 08:53 PM

Great Job. and now that you caught the bug.... I'm sure we'll see more in your quilts in the future.

Kelsie 08-06-2018 07:25 AM

SusieQOH I don't have strings for some reason I have bits so I made a crumb quilt. Your string quilt would be a perfect colour match for my front room. :-)

Hi Kelsie, I have no idea what a crumb quilt is. Not sure if I want to know. I already have way too many projects lined up :D

Kelsie 08-11-2018 12:55 PM

Oh SusieQOH: Yes, you do want to know because they are fun also. Mind you doing strings is a little bit easier. Crumbs are your smallest pieces and of course that is subjective. I just went and got my flimsy and measured, a lot of my pieces are 3" x 2" or 1" by at the most 4". Crumbs embrace every shape but mine are almost all straight edges, I am still young at sewing so not really confident to use curves but I have tried to put in diagonals. I was given a bunch of scraps and last Christmas I was recovering from the flu. I had been working on a BOM and was afraid to continue with it as I knew I really didn't have too many brain cells active soooo, I just started putting these scraps together with nothing much in mind until I had a handful of squares and realized I should/could actually do something with them. I trimmed them to 6 1/2", used a small green and white check for sashing (1"finished) with a darker cornerstone. I have been very surprised at the response I have had, everyone likes it. I am going to try (again) to post pictures. I need to learn to do this. If you have any more questions I am happy to try to answer.

SusieQOH 08-11-2018 12:56 PM

Thank you, Kelsie! Could you post a pic?

Kelsie 09-04-2018 10:33 AM

SusieQOH: My apologies. Surgery and life have gotten in the way. I went and got the camera out the other day and dead batteries. I did try to post before but couldn't get it to work. Busy for the next couple days but I have not forgotten.

SusieQOH 09-05-2018 04:35 AM

Kelsie- no worries! Hope you're on the mend. That's the important thing :)

This new computer does not like our camera but perhaps it will work

Kelsie 09-14-2018 09:13 PM

The rust border at the top will be put on all around. Can anyone tell me why Louise is sideways and how do I fix/prevent it?

SusieQOH 09-15-2018 10:37 AM

Kelsie, that is beautiful!!! The only thing I know is to right click and when it says view image it comes up the right way. I use a mac- not sure if it works on a PC or not.
Thanks so much for remembering to post it. I love it :)

Kelsie 09-15-2018 02:39 PM

No SusieQ it didn't give me that option.

SusieQOH has one solution which used to work for me. Now I have to right click on it. Then a box comes up that says "open in new tab" Then I have to find that new tab in the bar above, click on that and it comes in right side up.
