love it, isn't it fun?? I really hope to do a larger sized one in the next 6 months or year!!!!

Bluebonnet Sue 10-05-2010 01:01 PM

WOW, love this one. Gotta give this a try too. Looks so fun!

nwm50 10-05-2010 01:10 PM

Love what you did ! Thanks for an wonderful idea on re-using a ruler w/o having to buy a special ruler for this pattern,

Ditter43 10-05-2010 01:38 PM

I love the colors and fabrics you used. Are you going to make a big one now? :D

nwm50 10-05-2010 01:43 PM

Oooo, i have that mazagine "square Dance"...it's on my must do list!! Have most of the fabric already awaiting to be done. Hope mine comes out as nice as this one! ;)

Thanks! i will have to look sq dance up, to see what it looks like..

this is only a table topper size..i can not see doing a whole quilt this way..not with the small size, maybe if i used 10"/Cakes squares of fabric.
i can see myself enlarging to a 12.5 square ruler even! marking your own lines..

sueisallaboutquilts 10-05-2010 01:52 PM

Kim, that's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm waiting to get my ruler in the mail as I write. I am really taken by that pattern!!
Thanks for sharing your awesome quilt! :D

watterstide 10-05-2010 01:54 PM

i ordered mine too..then after i got it, they posted the quilters cache link to sort of make your own ruler, plus on the 1st or 2nd page of this thread, she posted pictures of how she did her lines... lol! it is ok! i wish i had gotten the bigger one now, i may just enlarge it and draw it on a 12.5 ruler.

sueisallaboutquilts 10-05-2010 01:58 PM

You know, I'm one of those people who screw everything up!
That's why I bought the ruler. Greencat did a great tute but I couldn't figure out how to make my ruler that way.
I'm really challenged hahaha

sueisallaboutquilts 10-05-2010 01:59 PM

And I'll probably buy the larger one too.
I pick my battles when it comes to my budget and my
screw-up-projectitis lol

watterstide 10-05-2010 02:02 PM

i think they show you how on
http://www.quilterscache.com/P/Pinwheel5Block.html

but i am glad i got the ruler too..
the really nice thing about this is, no matching up seams, on the pinwheel..just on the blocks..

That is great! I wish my mind worked that way. When I see something like this, it clicks, but I can never come up with it on my own!

nwm50 10-06-2010 05:31 AM

watterstide....that's a idea, making into a larger size. The bigger...the better for me to do! LOL, not a small size-pattern sewer! Let us know how it goes, if u make it into an larger blocks please!

sueisallaboutquilts 10-06-2010 05:40 AM

Kim, thanks for the link to you tute.
I just finshed a quilt top that had a million triangles and squares to match up. This will be so much fun!!
I need a fun project after the last one :)

i sure will! i plan on doing some test runs with it tomorrow.

ambquilter 10-12-2010 07:23 AM

I think if you use 1" or 3/4" for all the sides you wouldn't get the twirling look (or not as much of a twirling effect). Just my opinion.

sueisallaboutquilts 10-12-2010 07:28 AM

I got the template and is sure is small!! I probably should have bought the bigger one!

i believe it make just a 6 inch finished block? i know, i wish i had gotten the larger one too!

sueisallaboutquilts 10-12-2010 01:57 PM

The larger one looked HUGE to me. Oh well... Haven't used the little one yet but I'm excited to!

Kathryn2 11-07-2010 01:52 PM

If you make your own pattern, what are the measurements for a larger square? I think I would be better off working with something larger to start with. Wouldn't you know I don't have a 3 1/2 inch square but a 4 inch one anyway. I have bought too much fabric so no more rulers for awhile. Thanks for your help. Blessings Kathryn

This is the first time I've posted with multiple pics.....I'm hoping everything shows up ok

Beautiful looking quilt. I've always wanted to make one of these, but just haven't been able to figure it out until now. But I'm still not sure I've figured it out. In your template it says 3/4" on three sides and in the upper right hand corner it says 1". Why aren't all four 3/4" or 1". Why does it make a difference to have that extra 1/4" in the upper right hand corner. I hope you can explain this. Thanks!!

Glad I read the thread, I was about to ask the same question. Why is one corner 1" and the other three are 3/4"???

watterstide 11-07-2010 03:13 PM

on the large size ruler..8" i used 1 and 3/4" inch markings all around. did a mock up in paper first! lol!
not sure why one would be different than the other 3.

Thanks. I just cut my plexiglass 8" and am getting ready to mark my lines. So if I mark 1" on one corner and 3/4 on the other 3, I will be OK then?

watterstide 11-07-2010 03:28 PM

the pictures she showed were for the small ruler..

for the larger ruler, 8" i marked them at 1 3/4".

Did you mark all 4 corners at 1 3/4"??

watterstide 11-07-2010 03:39 PM

yes, that is what i did.

Beth, someone mentioned that the "X block" ruler/patterns are basicly the same thing.
i don't have that ruler, but i meant to check it out.

there are so many beautiful twister items out there..

the pot holder one in my album was made by a gal on another board..i love the striped fabric she used for the border!
great idea, and wouldn't they make nice gifts..

Funny you should mention the X block ruler. I happen to have one. Duh!! I will check it out and see how close they are. I may post them together so we can see the difference.

Here is the pic of both the Twister and the X block rulers. The X block has three different lines you can place on seams.
It is 7 1/2" instead of 8".

Twister on left, X block on right

I think that all the lines have to be the same distance from the corner. Where the lines cross in the middle has to be 90 degrees in each corner.

watterstide 11-08-2010 02:47 AM

i looked at some tutorials for the X block last night..so cool!
i can't believe i missed this ruler! and i know it has been out for a few years!

BMP 11-08-2010 03:32 AM

Thanks

Yep, It has. I bought mine in Az last winter.

happymrs 11-08-2010 07:03 AM

I love this, thanks for sharing! Have done some tesselating quilts, but never tried one this way, & it looks so much easier & faster! Can't wait to try out a little one, with charms, & play!

ewecansew 11-08-2010 08:14 AM

Charms at walmart are very expensive compared to LQS. Only 20 in a package compared to LQS at 40-42 for about the same price.

LindaR 11-08-2010 08:25 AM

I cut mine from the bottom up so that its easier to keep track and you don't have the bunch up at the top. have made quite a few and love the wreath done somewhere on the board. Just seach "twister" and it should pop up...

i posted the shop the wreath pattern comes from, it is up above in one of my posts, or it is in my twister album...

which may be apart of my signature..projects for this year.

the wreath is awesome!
