Yes, charm pks can get expensive, so I do watch the prices. I think the pack saw at our WM here, there was 32 in it, for $7, but will check again before I think of buying any. Forget the 20pks, not worth the price!

I bought a pack of 100 at WM a couple of weeks ago. 10.00. That makes them pretty darn cheap. Will work great for table runners. and the charm pack party tote.

RkayD 11-08-2010 09:32 AM

Do you think this uses the same technique as the X Block ruler that uses a 9 patch instead of a 4 patch? I have the X Block but haven't had a chance to try it yet....

ewecansew 11-08-2010 09:39 AM

I don't think so, Ronna, as the lines are in different places.

happymrs 11-08-2010 09:52 AM

Featherweight, that's a great deal! Ours is a fairly new WM & more fabric is just beginning to show up, so I will be keeping an eye out. No real fabric dept. there yet, but am hoping, with the recent signs I am seeing there...

How good is the fabrics in 100 ct. charm packs & will alot of them work together, just curious????

Yes, They are 100% cotton and they are coordinating fabrics.
I didn't realize that there are 4 fabrics and not 5 as pictured.
They had them separated in the pack and I thought it was 5 fabrics. Duh..

25 charms of each pattern

I love this tutorial! And all the comments everyone has made.
Someday I hope to make one.

On the link for Quilters Cache, the template you can print out appears to be 1/2" on each corner.

It is actually 3/4" on each corner. I forgot about the seam allowance that she shows on there.

I've never made this quilt pattern.

sueisallaboutquilts 11-12-2010 06:02 PM

Yes, there is something about this pattern that seems to be making many of us excited!! It's just awesome and when I saw the first project I knew I had to get that ruler. I haven't bought a ruler in ages!! :D

Latrinka 11-12-2010 06:29 PM

Very pretty, Love the colors! Great idea for template!

I got a pack of 100 5" squares at WM. Paid 10.00. I think that is about as cheap as I have seen them anyplace...

happymrs 11-23-2010 05:46 AM

I played with this template last nice. Made my own template, traced it off on printable velum. Did the 1" in the one corner 3/4" in the other three. First one, first time laying it on my squares, the cross lines didn't line up. So, I walked away for a bit, to think about it. Then, the thought occurred to me, try another ruler! So, I did that, made another template, & they lined up! Now, I did try 3/4" in all four corners, & that didn't work, once I changed one corner to 1", then it all lined up. I have my pinwheels cut now & ready to stitch together, & I used 30 blocks, 5 rows of 6, then added a 3" border... Will share a pic when I get it all sewn together. Still thinking of a border too...

greencat 11-23-2010 01:15 PM

Happymrs - I'm looking forward to seeing your quilt! I don't really know the reason for the 1" in the upper right corner of the ruler, but it works!

happymrs 11-23-2010 01:30 PM

Yes, I think you need that 1" in one corner. It would line up for me without that. If anyone is having problems making their own template, think about trying it with a different ruler. That did the trick for me! When I get a pic I will post it here. I am still working on a border idea. How about anyone else who has made one of these yet? I want to try the wreath one too, in xmas fabrics. That may be my next little project!...

tutty 11-23-2010 02:28 PM

Neat idea ! Looks really good . thank you

Connie in CO 11-23-2010 03:13 PM

OK,then why are all the marks on my ruler the same.I know where you can get the rulers i saw them Friday in Pueblo.
I know those little feet on the rulers a pain so i can see making a template from a regular square ruler, you can use the smaller cutter than they call for.

Connie in CO 11-23-2010 03:15 PM

Wreath Pinwheels you you want to see it when i get the boarder on?

ewecansew 11-23-2010 06:36 PM

The two lines on the ruler (template) have to cross at 90* in the middle of the ruler. If your sewing is correct, your seam lines should also cross at 90*. All the lines should be the same distance from the corners. If one is at 1 inch and the others at 3/4, your center will not be square.

This post inspired me to finally join here. I made a ruler & am kicking through a top with the technique, wanted to share my progress too. Thank you :)

pojo 11-29-2010 06:44 AM

that is pretty

happymrs 11-29-2010 06:53 AM

Very pretty, this design is so much fun to play with!

check out page one, you'll see why

pojo 11-29-2010 08:09 AM

so it is suppose to be all the same inches in each corner?

Me too! I made this wreath today. It was so easy! I made my own template out of cardboard. I agree with the folks that say all 4 corners should be the same distance, otherwise you don't get 90 degrees in the middle. I think you can vary the distance to get a skinny or a fat pinwheel. I did 3/4

My wreath

LindaR 11-30-2010 05:42 AM

I love the wreath...its funny but the original that was given to me has the upper right hand corner 1" and the rest 3/4" and the 6-1/2" I did is all 1-1/2" in each corner, does it really matter??? I don't think so

happymrs 11-30-2010 08:02 AM

I tried either way doing the two I did, & they still don't exactly line up with those cross seams, so I just wing it? Any suggestions on this problem?

is this for the 3 1/2"? I think what I would do in that case...do the line from upper right to lower left first /, do at 3/4" first, mark upper right with "up" and then lay it down on the seam lines of 4 blocks and mark the left to right line...check what the measurements come out at. I haven't tried this but would be interested what they measure...Like I said when I bought my 3 1/2" template with the pattern the upper right was one inch and the rest 3/4"????? don't know why but it worked fine

Dar-midlife 12-01-2010 07:31 AM

I think LindaR is on target with her comments but the one thing worth noting is you have to have "up" marked on your template with a Sharpie/permanent marker. If you are not consistent with putting the top side up all the time, it will not work either.

good point....forgot to mention

ewecansew 12-01-2010 07:52 PM

LindaR--was it a template or the actual twister tool?

It doesn't matter if it is your own acrylic home-made template or the actual tool. The only difference is the $$ it is costing you!

DITTO!!!

ewecansew 12-02-2010 06:56 PM

LindaR had stated that when she got her template with the pattern and I wanted to know if it was a template or the actual twister tool. Sorry for the confusion.
