Is that a cheeseburger pincushion? How wonderful! Now I'm hungry ...

You cover it with muslin first to make the shape, then cover it with fabric, no leakage

I always use human hair. I am still using one that I made when I cut my daugters hair in about 1970. The only problem it has is the flanel from her nightgown that covers it has been jabbed so many times that it is starting to fall apart. They just don't make things to last, do they??

Petsmart has Lizard Litter Desert Blend, Ground English Walnut shells, 5.5 liters or 5 Dry Quarts bag cost me $6.95. Also known as reptile bedding. I haven't used it yet, I have been using poly stuffing for my pincushions. But I will try these shells, it is small like grains of sand. I heard it kept the needles sharp.

Forgot to mention that all those pincushions are so cute! There is a free pattern at AllPeopleQuilt.com for the square pincushions, really easy to make.

I usually use bird grit to fill them with.

An elderly friend gave me a large and lovely old one, patch worked. I kept losing needles in it so took it apart, it was filled with needles and human hair!!!
