I made a quilt for my husband using his old cammies as two of the colors -- it's a Trip Around the World pattern. VERY EASY!!! It's my first quilt, and if I can do it, anyone can :) I've always really liked the bargello quilts, but they are still a bit complicated for me. This one is a great start to it. I used the 5 color variations (1 desert cam, 1 woodland cam, and 3 other complimentary colors). It made a twin quilt size.

Your DH's quilt is wonderful. Love the colors and you sure did do a good job. Thanks for sharing.

I love that Marine's Star pattern.

The other pattern is great.

Love the camo quilt. What a brilliant idea.

If you have too busy a pattern, it will take away from the fabrics. Choose one as your Theme and use the other as your filler with some type of solid. Or use one of them as the backing and do a simple pattern like the Trip Around the World. He's a Marine and a guy-most anything will be fine as long as warm and comfortable. Not something busy. Will he take it with him when he deploys somewhere or will it stay home? In this case, size matters for packing.

I love the Marine's Star, too... Just started it yesterday! I've never paper pieced before, but it's much easier than I thought it would be.

OP - If he is going to take it with him when he deploys I suggest sending it to him once he gets where he is going. Once DH got done packing up all his required gear before his last deployment, I couldn't even find enough room to stick a LETTER in his ILBE pack :)
