I ask becuase my last issue of Quilters Home came today and I noticed on one of the renewal cards they are still using his picture. I do not intend to renew because he is no longer associated with the magazine. Why are they still acting as if he is?
Have any of you renewed? I haven't read this issue yet but when they run out of articles that I am sure they in reserve it will not be the same. Has anyone heard what he is up to? |
He posts on facebook
|
Thank you
|
I got mine today as well, and went through it cover to cover. It is missing something. Now I know what...Mark! I had no idea he was no longer part of the magazine. That is a shame; I really did enjoy this one.
|
I subscribed when it first started, but didn't renew. Too much fluff, and not enough patterns. Personally I don't care how quilt designers decorate their bedrooms!

I had no idea Mark was no longer with Quilters Home. What's the schmaltz?
|
I didn't renew because part of the draw for the magazine, for me anyway, was his wit. It's not the same without him.
|
I just got the latest issue and whoever is writing the articles is trying too hard to imitate Mark. I thought he was funny and interesting (yea, sometimes over-the-top) but I always enjoyed his articles. I won't renew--they had three pages on quilt guild ID badges--BORING!!!! That's as far as I got (about page 10) and I used to read it cover to cover. I agree-I never liked any of the quilt patterns, but like they say about Playboy: I just got it for the articles LOL.
|
I got a free issue and new immediately is was not for me. It would be nice if all the magazines would give you a free issue to test the waters so speak.
|
He posted on his blog that he is no longer associated with the magazine. He is apparently busy designing fabric, and he is involved with some ribbon manufacturer.
|
He will be here in Denver in a few weeks for an Expo. I would LOVE to take his class, but it is too expensive. I actually never liked the magazine because it read too much like a chic magazine... like sex and quilting... or best kind of chocolate... I just want to quilt, not read a quilting magazine that delved into the bedroom life of quilters.

I actually enjoyed his magazine and loved his quarky sense of humor. I'm glad I didn't up my subscription. I knew something was different but couldn't figure out what it was. Now I know. |

Well I did alittle research. The company who published Quilters Home was bought by another company and came in and started letting go people Mark worked with. He didn't like that so he left too, they are the same company who puts on the internet show he was doing with Alex Anderson, he is not on that anymore.
Now this information is what I have picked up on the net, nothing from his mouth though. I found comments from him that just said he was moving on to better things and not to worry he'd still be around. I really do miss his humor in the magazine, the earlier poster who said that the new people are trying to imitate him is right. they are not very good. i just don't know why they are still using his picture on order post cards that is very mis representing. |
I think the show you are referring to is QUILT OUT LOUD with Jodi. The show is on QNNTV. I do agree that the magazine is not what it used to be.
I appreciated Mark's honest opinion about notions and fabrics. |
Bummer! I've been meaning to subscribe but never got around to it. Glad now I didn't. His sense of humor really made the magazine stand apart from others. Hope he returns to a medium where it won't cost an arm & leg (e.g., joing QNNTV) to enjoy him.

He was the guest speaker at the MQX dinner last year. He is HOOT, made sure I went to the ladies room before he started. :)
He kept us laughing through the whole meal LOL. We also enjoyed his show and tell with his quilts. |

Mark was here 2 weeks ago at our Okla. quilt show. I did not take his class, because I do not like his humor. Used to take the magazine, but there was too much other stuff in it. I did hear his talk was good but got a bit too racy for some. This board is where I first heard that he was not with the magazine.
|
I've been looking on the newsstands for weeks trying to find the quilt magazine he was in (couldn't remember the name) never did any quilting from it but enjoyed his humor although sometimes it could be somewhat offensive. Guess I can quit looking now.
|
He is still on QNNTV's Quilt Out Loud.
I also cancelled the mag. It is not the same without him. |

I liked QH a whole lot when Mark was running it. I liked his bawdy sense of humor. I liked the recipes. I liked the cocktail recipes. I liked the decorating sections. I Loved the product reviews!! I'm bored with magazines that have simple pattern after simple pattern, month after month. |

I wasn't comfortable with some of his magazine articles, not a magazine to swap at my guild for sure. Remember the Allen Jackons song Going Country? Swap Quilting for Country and that is the impression I got from Mark's sudden appearance in the quilting world. I really like his modern fabric designs.
|
He updates on Twitter, FB, and has his own yahoo group. Last I heard, he's got a new fabric line and threads, too.
There were some QNN episodes already taped that came out after he left QH. The magazine is all about Mark...I cannot imagine it without him. I was planning to purchase a subscription and changed my mind when I heard the news. |
Mark is on facebook....

This is Mark's blog, his Sept. blog tells that he left it all behind. |
This may only be part of the reason he left. There was a corporate take over...it included F&P, QNNTV, several magazines associated with McCalls. There was apparently a disagreement on editorial issues, so he left the magazine and the QNNTV. He told Pickle Road posse members that he was working with Aurafill threads, I think. And he said he had several other opportunities. I think I will check out Facebook and see if he offers more info. I really enjoyed the magazine, but did not renew. The last issue had his name as executive editor.
|
I did a retreat where he was a teacher. I had a wonderful time; almost finished the quilt, didn't really like the outcome, but learned a lot. His trunk show is a genuine hoot!! I did learn that he and apparently other designers create quilts that they themselves cannot make go together and have to "fudge", but no mention of these issues is documented in the pattern or in pattern corrections. I have one in particular that I was collecting fabric for and found out the pattern wouldn't work. He did tell us how to fix it, but admitted that neither he nor McCalls issued a pattern correction. Amazing...
|
I agree, didn't like it at all....too much about Mark's underwear (or lack of it) and other off the wall subjects...JMO[/quote]
I wanted to like this magazine because it was more than just patterns, but I am not his "cupcake", don't really care to see Bonnie get a makeover, or care about Mark's favorite drink. For those still interested this got a lot of hubub on the About.com group and you can keep up with his activities on his Pickle Road Posse group that you can subscribe to on Yahoo. Although I do like his fabrics, he is just a little to full of himself for my taste. I acutally liked the newer issues without as much Mark. |
Well I wish I had known this before I re-ordered for 3 years. I'll see how the magazine goes but it was his wit that drew me to the magazine. Does anyone have a link to his Facebook page?
|
I am truely upset that Mark is no longer with the magazine. I paid for a subscription cause I enjoy him so much. I took a class and lecture with him and just had the best time ever!! I feel cheated that now there are like a big bunch of people doing the magazine that i don't care about and I miss his sharp wit and insight. will not be renewing, have the feeling the magazine won't last when we all dump it.

Just go to facebook and put Mark Lipinski in the search. He's the first one that pops up. |
Another lady on facebook says money back guarantee...if not satisfied. She paid for 3 years, and got a full refund. That might worth checking into for those of you who are not happy with it.
