magpiefeather 08-29-2011 02:24 AM

I can't figure out for the life of me! I don't know how I manage to make quilts, my math is so bad! Any helpers?

carrieg 08-29-2011 02:30 AM

My basic math tells me 48.25 yards.

Each is 1/4 yard, so 193 divided by 4 = 48.25

Just think of it as how many $$ is 193 quarters! Maybe money will help LOL

mic-pa 08-29-2011 02:31 AM

Hi Just divide it by 4 and you get 48 and 1/4 yds.

PegD 08-29-2011 02:31 AM

Every 4 would make a yard, so 193 divided by 4 would be 48 1/4? I hope I'm not as stupid as I feel sometimes.

magpiefeather 08-29-2011 02:34 AM

OK well the reason I asked is there is an eBay for 193 Asian Fat Quarters for $80.50 with $9.99 shipping. So how much would that be a yard?

PegD 08-29-2011 02:39 AM

$1.88?

$1.88 per yard or per fat quarter?

stitchengramie 08-29-2011 02:42 AM

I brought this book titled "Revised Patchwork Minus Mathwork" It is a quilters guide for planning and buying fabric that has all the yardage or number of fat quarters you would need and how many square and so forth you can get from a yard of fabric as well as fat quarters and pre-cuts.

PegD 08-29-2011 02:43 AM

Per yard. Please someone, check my math.

OH thanks...I believe I do have that book somewhere. I need to know if it is worth the money to buy 193 fat quarters for a total of $90.49. How much does it break down to per fat quarter moneywise?

Where is this coming from? Thats a steal!
your total cost is $90.49
divided that by 193 = .46 a FQ
.46 x 4 = $1.84 a yard CHEAP!!!!!!!!!

answer to 1st ? = 48 1/4 yards of fabric

I thank you! Yes it is on eBay right now ending in 5 hours!

Item number: 280731019992 check it out!

PegD 08-29-2011 02:52 AM

It would be $1.88 a yard, or 47 cents per fat quarter.

That is just a starting bid, and could be more in the next 4+ hours.

Maia B 08-29-2011 03:18 AM

All the above calculations are correct. 4 fat quarters per yard. 193/4=48.25.

ptquilts 08-29-2011 03:21 AM

You know you have a calculator right in your computer, don't you? Comes in handy.:-)

so,,,,,, who's going to bid?!!

just noticed, they have it listed under "Quilting Books & Instruction" - brilliant.

That's probably why no one has bid.....

sherriequilts 08-29-2011 03:36 AM

you go girl and snap that right up! sounds like a great deal to me. hope you get it and happy quilting!

gollytwo 08-29-2011 03:39 AM

Remember you'll lose a quarter inch all around a FQ - so it's not as simple as dividing by 4

bearisgray 08-29-2011 04:17 AM

Looks like an excellent deal for someone (so far, anyway)
- three hours or so left to bid.

CarrieAnne 08-29-2011 04:23 AM

Hope you get it, OR GOT IT, lol, what a deal!

traumaRN 08-29-2011 05:50 AM

it is a great deal, almost too good to be true. What do you think the fabric quality is like?

Holice 08-29-2011 05:56 AM

divide by 4

Granny Quilter 08-29-2011 06:01 AM

Divide 193 by 4 and you get 48 and 1/4

magpiefeather 08-29-2011 07:10 AM

Here it is...looks like good quality. 2 bidders so far. I can't afford it

SharonTheriault 08-29-2011 07:46 AM

I hate math too. I just follow the instructions. And I love asian fabrics. Good luck.

magpiefeather 08-29-2011 07:50 AM

Did you bid, MagPie?

And wondering if the "winner" will let us know that s/he was the lucky person.

NO. I was going to, but would have to scramble to get that much to pay for it. I hope someone will announce if they won it though. It was a great deal. But I don't use the Asian prints although I think they are beautiful.

TexasGurl 08-29-2011 12:26 PM

that's about 48.25 yards (divide fqs by 4) ... could be a little less, due to the way some fq are cut these days

IAmCatOwned 08-29-2011 12:31 PM

48.25 yards.

There are 4 fat quarters in a yard. Just divide 193/4 and you have it. I won 37 yards worth of fat quarters as a door prize once. Still using it. 6 years later.

watterstide 08-30-2011 04:18 AM

plus $10 for shipping, so you have to figure that in too.

hope who ever won it "shares" :XD:

SunlitenSmiles 08-30-2011 04:24 AM

fat quarters never equal yards of fabric even if they are all the same print IMHO

48.25. Remember that fat quarters are still quarter yards, just cut differently. Divide the number by 4.
