Lovely-I am making a log cabin quilt out of men's ties. I have lost interest in it though. Hopefully I'll get back to it.

I just saw that you are in Cross Junction, VA. Us VA girls must have a thing about 'tie quilts'.

needles3thread 03-05-2011 08:26 AM

I have never seen a quilt made of ties that I liked until I saw
this one. Nice.

I have ties also--was looking for a pattern. Thanks for posting!!!

Chay 03-06-2011 05:56 AM

That is gorgeous. Are the ties hard to sew in terms of them stretching all over the place?

matraina 03-06-2011 06:00 AM

Absolutely love that quilt! What a neat idea.

martyquilter 03-06-2011 06:03 AM

I have been 'threatening' to make one of those with the 300+ ties I have saved for years! Beautiful, and thanks for the inspiration. :)

Janet Leigh 03-06-2011 07:13 AM

So Pretty!! I've been wanting to make one for years. I've told all the men at work that I wanted their old ties ... no response ... then I told their wives and now I have several!! You've given me the inspiration to get started!! Thanks!! And Great Job!!

nkayel 03-06-2011 07:23 AM

Have questions regarding making a tie - Will such a quilt be able to be washed as some of the ties can't? What do you think?

sharoney 03-06-2011 07:27 AM

Very cool! Love the quilting too.

sewphie 03-06-2011 07:43 AM

Beautiful, good idea, now I am going to the thrift store to buy some ties!

There's a book called Daddy's Ties by Shirly Botsford. It has this and other interesting patterns for ties. I plan (one of my many plans) to make small dresden quilt blocks from my deseased father's ties) frame it, and give one to each of my siblings. I really have to get started on it, this was a good reminder.
