MY LQS told me a month or two back that all cotton based materials/threads were going up because of the global pricing, and I think Global warning, the excuse for everything at present :evil:

I buy my fabrics from the USA, I live in the UK, because of our prices are terrible, about £8 - 9 per metre ($13 approx) before the increase :shock: I use http://www.thousandsofbolts.com who's prices are great I can get terrific fabrics at half the price including the postage.

I also live in Uk, so had a look at the website, cannot believe the prices. How do you have it shipped, and what sort of postage do you pay?. Do you buy in small or larger quantities?
Sometimes when I have looked at buying from US,including the postage, the price has never been much different, so I am interested in this site. I have just bought some Moda here in UK and have paid £10.40 for a metre plus postage, but I really needed it to finish a quilt.

There are a few grocery stores here in the UK, including some of the smaller supermarkets where you have to pay for your plastic bags. I have made a few marketing totes which I always use, and I always keep one rolled up in my handbag for for those unitentional buys

I need to start taking my own bags too. I did make some, but I always forget them. Target gives you 5 cents off your purchase for using them I heard!

I don't think people should be despairing quite yet. A lot of people talk about how huge their stash is, and yet are worried about the increasing prices. Maybe the rate of growth of your stashes will decline, but it sounds like there will still be plenty of money for purchasing for many (I know not all) of us. Also, if you're smart about looking for sales and deals on the web, plenty can still be purchased! Fatquartershop.com still has old pricing on all of their fabrics as far as I can see, and Fabric.com sells all of Moda's lines even cheaper than that! LQS's may be in trouble (and I'm very sorry about that) but we won't be, as long as we're a bit smarter and more discerning about where and when we buy.

QuiltingaddictUK - I assume you mean global warming. I would love to hear the argument as to how cotton prices are affected by global warming; I haven't heard it. It sounds like you're getting a bit political, though. I don't know what it's like in the UK, but in the US, I certainly haven't seen it being, "an excuse for everything."

Yes, prices are going up. My LQS has warned us all that prices are rising. Stock up on anything cotton. I used my Hobby Lobby 40% coupon on a roll of cotton batting. Should keep me for a while.

I just had a brainstorm. Do you mean indirectly? Global warming is certainly a likely partial cause of the wonky weather that lead to crop failures, hence leading to a shortage, then to increasing prices. I thought you meant a more direct "there's global warming so let's increase prices" kind of thing.

This increase in prices is ridiculous! I WILL give up quilting if it happens. Of course, I DO have a B I G stash, so I probably have enough to last me the rest of my life if I made a quilt a day until I die!

I heard that cost to the store is up 65%
