Moda
Has anyone ever bought fabric from Moda or used their patterns? Are they pricey?
I have bought Moda fabric, both by the yard and precuts. I love their stuff but it is a little pricey. I try to catch it on sale. I don't think I've used their patterns.
I bought a jelly roll that is from Moda's line. Jelly Rolls are normally around $24 to $35 depending on many strips are in the roll. I found mine for $17.50 as a daily deal so I bought 2. The strips were all cut the same and good quality. I know at MSCO a yard of their fabric is now $5.95/yd. Cheapest I have found thus far.
From what I can tell, most name brands run about the same. |
I have some of the patterns from the Moda bakeshop. They are really cute for the pre-cuts that you can get now. I haven't finished any yet but I have all the patterns with the precuts ready to go, just need to find the time!
I buy Moda on sale either precuts or yardage. Moda has so many new lines coming out all the time the older lines go on sale a lot.
I can only shop online right now and I mostly buy moda....Very good quality and like they said it goes on sale alot. Hancocks of Paduach has tons on closeout right now. Downfall tho is when you see a line you like buy with a project in mind it is hard to find fabrics 1 or more years later. I have had luck with Robert Kaufman as well, great quality! Since I cant feel the fabric in the store I have to go buy what I know from the brands!
Moda is concidered to be one of the "premium" quality manufactures of fabric for quilting. Many seek out Moda for the quality of the fabrics the patterns are printed on as well as the beautiful prints. There are many different lines within the Moda Brand. As stated earlier they are very popular and many fabrics within a specifc line will sell out very quickly. I have learned the hard way to buy it when I see it( in sufficient quanities) or I may never see it again.
Love Moda fabric. I try to get it on sale and I don't buy jelly rolls or layer cakes because I think they're outrageously priced and I want more control over the fabric choices.
I love moda fabric, I have used it in many projects!
I don't usually buy Moda, but I received Moda fabric from a guild for a comfort quilt I made recently. In this case, I thought the fabric was rather flimsy, but it was well printed and made a nice quilt. If I had found it in the store, I would not have bought it because it felt very thin. I don't think that's a normal reaction to Moda, however, so it's possible that this fabric was not typical of that line.

Yes, I love to use Moda; the fabrics by their designers are beautiful; have never been disappointed. They have many free patterns on their website, and I have done several of them for myself and gifts. My theory is that if you are going to spend your valuable time and effort, buy the best you can afford and you won't be disappointed. For instance, the only items I buy at JoAnns are notions, their fabric for me anyhow, is not worth taking a chance on. I shop for the better fabrics at discounts, there are websites and local quilt shops that you can buy from at discount, or watch for the sales locally. Here is a nice website for example that has all the best brands (I am not affiliated in any way, just like this store):
www.oldcountrystorefabrics.com |
I made this quilt for my grandson Noah, last year...It spoke to me when I saw it.

I love Moda. They have beautiful colors.
I have bought fabric from Moda for years....they have the best designers...wonderful hand to their fabrics. I don't know that they are more than any other quilt shop quality fabric. Just know that they are my favorites and so nice to sew with.
I have sewed some of their patterns, but it has been awhile. They usually have patterns to go with different groups of fabric. |
Moda is my favorite fabric. Luckily, living in a rural area, my LQS sells it for $7.75 a yard.
I use Moda all the time and love it.
I love Moda fabrics.

I think prints are $8.95 and solids are $5.95. At least they were yesterday when I was looking. |
I love it too! Used it on the last 2 girly quilts and love them.
I love it. I have used it many times. You can pretty much always find it on sale.
Love Moda fabric but it's really expensive over here. I treated myself to some at Christmas.

I use a lot of m0da fabric, colors and prints are very pretty, sales at my local fabric shop are always a plus....
I love Moda fabric. That and Thimbleberries are my 2 favorite fabrics. The quality is outstanding. Never ever had a problem, and have made several of the patterns on their web site. My favorite Moda fabric line is Kansas Troubles.
been using fabrics from moda for many many years- it depends on where you buy them how much they are- there is a huge difference in prices across the U.S.
ranges from $5 a yard on up to $12 a yard depending on where you are shopping- |
Use Moda once and you will allways want Moda it's great to work with and so pretty I have used a few of the patterns too allways with good results.
You get what you pay for. I find Moda of an excellent quality. I love their precuts, but I try to buy all my fabric on sale, if at all possible. I know that if I need a high quality fabric for a certain project I can depend on Moda to fill that requirement. There are other manufacturers that are also high quality, but Moda is a stand-out in my opinion.
I know people who buy mainly Moda fabrics because they like them so much.
Moda is my favorite fabric and I use it a lot. I buy from MSQ on their Daily Deals and on EBay and anyplace that has Moda on sale. It is pricey but I love it. Recently got a lot in Lancaster. Some of it is older prints but still beautiful and 30% off.
I love Moda fabric! I love the feel of it and the prints. I am fortunate that I make samples for my LQS and get the fabric for free. I do buy it for my own projects too.
at two different quilt shop runs i won Moda jelly rolls and they were the same ! 'Sanctuary' it is a very pretty line.
a few months later i happened on an end of bolt sale of the wide back in one of the fabrics in my favorite pale yellow. I was lovley and great feel to the cloth. all good, so far until, getting ready for the mystery quilt 01-01-2012 i opened the jelly rolls and oh, my.....the fabric is not the same at all. It felt coarse next to the wide back fabric and the most difference was looking at the back of the strips they are almost white where the color goes thru on the wide back so much you have to double ckeck front and back.....clearly there are different base goods used......the quilt top turned out nice, but sorry I cannot say that I am a 'fan' of Moda fabric. |

It's no more "pricey" than a lot of quilt shop-quality fabrics. I read the blog at www.modabakeshop.com every day and love the quick and easy ideas for quilts and other projects.
