#1 for me, as then I can do each one a different set of colors, or all the same

I cut squares to avoid sewing along a bias edge because it can stretch.

I use #1, but when it says "cut squares 3 7/8" or whatever size, I add 1/8 of an inch to round up to 4" or whatever the nearest half inch is. I do this so I have a little extra to square up nice and even to the size given.

Method 1 hands down! If I can stay away from bias I will unless I'm making a bias binding.

It depends on what I am doing. If I am making a scrap quilt I will use the your #1 method.

If I am making a lot of the same color combination I will use a multiple method and I always use my Bloc- Loc Ruler to square them up and I get perfect HSTs.

There are many methods to use and I choose the one that is best for the project.

I too do number one. I hate sewing triangles together.

I draw the line but I cut my squares over-sized. After I press the HSTs open, I square them up. It is more work but worth it for me.

This is what I do. Cut square 1/8" larger, draw diagonally line, sew, cut, starch. press and then trim. They come out very accurate this way.

I use #1 and make a little larger then cut down to size. It guarantees an accurate HST.
