Do most of you work on more than one project at a time?

Right now I have three projects going and it is driving me crazy. Normally I would only work on one project.

Guess I'm kind of odd that way!

erstan947 07-22-2011 05:33 PM

I usually have a few in various stages. I have stopped working on piecing until I get the quilting done on 7 tops. I kinda work on what I'm in the mood to do. I love this passion/hobby.:)

MissSandra 07-22-2011 05:34 PM

I have 4 going at this time and i really need to concentrate on one so i can get something completed lol

BeckyL 07-22-2011 05:38 PM

I pretty much do one at a time, but I may be planning the next one, or buying fabric for another, but I don't allow myself to actually cut fabric until the current project is complete.

thimblebug6000 07-22-2011 05:39 PM

Well.... you have to have one for traveling in the car with; then another for the days you want a challenge; and then another when you just need to sit mindlessly at your machine; and then one when you want to appliqué by hand; and then one when you want to ..... etc.etc....
When I first started quilting I vowed I would only have one project at a time happening, but I've had alot of fun making/finishing etc. projects over the years & hope you continue to work on as many projects as you need to keep you enthused.

cmagee84 07-22-2011 05:41 PM

I usually have several in different stages. However, once I start piecing I usually keep at it until it is done. I prepare the backing, batting and binding, before I put it in my list of "to be quilted" on my new LA.

sarahconner 07-22-2011 05:41 PM

I have about 21 UFPs. I acquired about 6 from other quilters. Am working on 4 different projects. When i get bored, I jump to the next one

Sewfine 07-22-2011 05:52 PM

I work on multiple projects at one time. I am working on a table runner now, fishing and deer hunters quilt, and a book bag. Depends on the mood I'm in or how hard a project is. I put it down and move on to something else and then come back to it later.

blueangel 07-22-2011 05:53 PM

I usually have several I'm working on.

yellowsnow55 07-22-2011 06:00 PM

I'm piecing 5, quilting 2, cutting 1 and 2 waiting to be sandwiched. Plus smaller in between projects. When I run out of materials for one I just move on to something else, whilst I'm waiting for supplies to arrive. At the moment I'm waiting for threads and ran out of vliesofix for another one. I always feel like my day is wasted if I don't get any sewing in. Even if it's just a mending job.

ube quilting 07-22-2011 06:13 PM

To many! Can't even count how many in different stages but all ready to go if I need it! I store them by the amount of work that is done.
cut and waiting to piece
some stage of peicing
finished blocks
finished tops
Finished tops W/ backing ready are stored by LAM
ready to bind stored in closet

peace :D

thepolyparrot 07-22-2011 06:20 PM

I started off thinking that I was NOT going to start a second project before the first one was done. And it worked like a charm. (that first time! ;) )

I don't even know how many I've got started now, but it's "rightdown disgustin'," as they say around here. ;)

bjeriann 07-22-2011 06:38 PM

I have a few going. 3 BOM, and 3 other tops. I get board with one and put it away, then pull out another. Plus I always have one in the frame to quilt. I try to quilt a few hours then sew a few hours each day.

Sewlmatesister 07-22-2011 06:41 PM

LOL!! Is there a quilter alive that has one project?? LOL

Painiacs 07-22-2011 09:19 PM

This is the first time I've done 2 at same time.

wolfkitty 07-22-2011 09:42 PM

There are a few out there who have commented on the board here. I am not one of them. I usually get to one place or another on a quilt and either get stuck or bored. Or sometimes I just get really interested in something new. So I start a new project, with the plan to go back to the previous one, which sometimes happens, sometimes not. And the UFO pile deepens.

sandilee 07-22-2011 09:46 PM

I have 2 ufo's now. I will never do this again....I intend to finish one before I start another.

My mind is working too fast....cause I am thinking of how I start the next one and for who!

irishrose 07-22-2011 09:54 PM

This is my first time with two at once, too. My goal is get the Jewel Box off the design wall before I need the wall for the Carpenter's Star. If I don't have any more big goofs, I'm good to go.

I'm not counting almost finished UFOs. These two are quilts with deadlines.

annesthreads 07-22-2011 11:48 PM

I'm slowly working my way through about 15 ufos, having decided that this year I was going to finish those rather than start anything new. I'm trying to focus on one at a time, but quite often have to stop because I need thread, or batting, or backing fabric - so then I'll pick another one up until I can get whatever it is that I need. I don't think I'd ever be down to just one project - I like some variety, sometimes piecing, sometimes quilting, sometimes (occasionally!) handwork. I also prefer to decide on borders, backing fabric and quilting thread when I reach that stage of making the quilt, as my ideas of what I want can change as the top comes together, and I can't afford to buy stuff that I don't then use. So I need to have something else to pick up till I can go shopping or the postman comes!

leatheflea 07-23-2011 02:37 AM

One on the frame, one being piece and one on the cutting table. I try to always work this way.

ckcowl 07-23-2011 03:11 AM

sometimes i have so many going i dont even know what i'm working on--i just keep working :)

but seriously- i have a dozen quilts in various stages- some i am doing hand piecing or applique and am working on the hand components-some i had to set aside for a bit for some reason- waiting for something-some are (personal projects) that get set aside for projects for others- i get to (mine) when i get tired of others- just want to work on something else-
sometimes it's a 'skill-builder' project- and i have to (back-up, regroup, and do a couple practice blocks before i can move forward again)
always have 2 or 3 hand projects going/travel projects-
guess i'm just too scattered to stay on task for one at a time- the good thing though -- when they start coming together i usually have 3 or 4 suddenly done at once! which i just love it when they (come together) :)

what is vilesofix ?

the old one 07-23-2011 03:40 AM

I usually have several projects in the making, at least one will be totally scrap, one will be hand quilting, and then there will be a table runner or place mats, to have ready for a gift. Sometimes, there are more than three! piecefully, the old one

charlie 1940 07-23-2011 03:59 AM

On my design wall (wall of please get me done) I have starting blocks for my calendar hangers, blocks for my QIAD Training signature blocks (waiting for the rest of the signatures), a twister table topper waiting for borders, extra log cabin blocks (about 40) fror my daughter's king quilt for smaller laps, cute caps I am redirecting to be used as scarf replacements under you motorcycle helmet, a monkey and lion flannel that my 27 year old grand daughter spotted and wants, several casserole carriers and baked potato bags, plus several quilts that need bindings. So in answer to your question... I have several projects going at the same time. lol Charlie

klc 07-23-2011 04:12 AM

I'm a more than one person. I've got the quilt pieced and ready to be quilted, BOM in progress, and bags being completed right now. I also am thinking of other projects to start. I always have completion dates in mind, so nothing stays unfinished too long.

CoventryUK 07-23-2011 04:19 AM

Of course!!!! Boxes of them!!!!! Some I'd even forgotten about!!!! It's fun when you find them and eventually get them finished!!   I have a reputation to uphold!!!!!!

misscarol 07-23-2011 04:22 AM

I do work on several at a time, all different stages!

judi43 07-23-2011 04:33 AM

I thought it was almost a Quilters Rule to have more than one project going at a time. I usually have two or three, but there not all quilts some are Bags & Potholders. Christmas is coming you know.

GV09 07-23-2011 05:43 AM

I have many different stages!
As I am learning, I see something I always try to do ...
My biggest failure ... finish!
I need to get with it soon!
A hug!

Yeah! This above.

valsma 07-23-2011 05:57 AM

I think I have about three my self in the works. From cut to waiting to be peiced or quilted.

quiltmom04 07-23-2011 05:59 AM

Oh yes, I always have several projects going. right now I can think of at least 4 or 5. Keeps me interested.

Linda1 07-23-2011 06:07 AM

I get tired of working on one at a time so I have too many to count. LOL I am trying to make myself finish up some of them because a lady I know said when her mother passed away they found a lot of quilts that had been started and not finished. She was finishing them. If I die now I think my husband would have a big bonfire.

lots2do 07-23-2011 06:16 AM

I've taken too many classes lately and not finished those projects. Really need to get back into the sewing space but it's been so hot and I don't have an AC unit in that room. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

grannypat7925 07-23-2011 06:51 AM

Not really projects yet but just various blocks that piqued my interest. Have 3 different stacks so far.

shirley35 07-23-2011 06:56 AM

I have two on my flannel wall, two sandwiched, many tops ready to sandwich, many cut out pieces and finished blocks. Several inherited that need to be finished. I feel over whelmed many times. I have two deadlines coming up.
