there was a nice discussion on using muslin on quilts on this board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...n-t213635.html

Definitely, use it! You got a bargain too - wow! I love free motion quilting and find that muslin shows off the quilting sooo nicely. I like natural as well as bleached muslin both.

Used muslin for the sashing and I think it works well with the scraps. I also have wide muslin that I will use for the back.

Lol! I love that! " good lord what was I thinking?" I have tons of that!!!

As others have said, muslin gives the antique look & feel. Showcases the quilting very well too. I use it for most all of my backings now. I like the look & feel of it.

I have looked at what American quilters call calico and it is different to what Australians call calico, ours looks like a unbleached cotton fabric, is ours what Americans call muslin?

I use it on my large quilts ie queen and king. On lap quilts I back with flannel. I like backing with the muslin, bed quilts you only use one side and keeps the cost down a bit that way.

I use muslin for the backs. Just love it and how the hand stitching stands out.

Yes use the muslin for a quilt back. Id do it in a snap. Your quilting will look beautiful on the back as well as the front.

Thanks for all the advice. Muslin it is! There has just been so much talk about making quilt backs "fancy" that I was afraid it was too old fashioned. BUT ... I LIKE old fashioned!

I use muslin a lot for backing & background on quilts. Wish I had those bolts - enjoy!
