It took me 2 nights to do this. A little tedious, but I must admit that I am impressed. My blocks are always a little screwy, a little off. I enjoyed making something that turned out the way it was supposed to.

I bought the first BOM block this week from my LQS and I haven't begun on it yet. There are all kinds of flying geese, triangles and points....and I am intimidated!

Edited to say this star isn't part of the BOM...that one is a civil war quilt and NOT paper pieced.

That's beautiful! You shouldn't be intimidated! Your points are fabulous! I haven't done PP yet as I'm intimidated as well! Just now getting out of my comfort zone of squares, onto triangles!! LOL!

franie 01-24-2011 06:47 PM

That one is gorgeous!

MamaBear61 01-24-2011 06:49 PM

amma 01-24-2011 06:50 PM

WOW!! You did a wonderful job on this block :D:D:D

Diamondrose 01-24-2011 06:52 PM

Great Job! Don't be intimidated with paper piecing - you'll never know how good you are at it until you try.

BETTY62 01-24-2011 06:52 PM

Wow! That's really neat.

KathyAire 01-24-2011 06:54 PM

You did a wonderful job on that block. I printed that pattern/instructions out on Saturday. I want to try it but I'm going to find a tutorial first.
I love your colors.

twospoiledhuskies 01-24-2011 07:01 PM

This is beautiful!!! Don't worry about PP it actually is really easy and the points turn out perfect!!

Enjoy

Cyn 01-24-2011 07:01 PM

Beautiful!

isnthatodd 01-24-2011 07:05 PM

Isn't it fun to have it work out great? I really like it, altho I have not done more than cards, except for one wall hanging.

Grandma Peg 01-24-2011 07:13 PM

Your block is beautiful.

littlehud 01-24-2011 07:34 PM

Wow, that is beautiful. I love the colors and your points are perfect. Great job. I haven't tried PP but maybe someday.

I think it is really cute!!!

Yooper32 01-25-2011 04:46 AM

You did yourself proud. Kudos to you.

Tussymussy 01-25-2011 04:47 AM

That is beautiful and congratulations on getting your points so nicely matched. It is much easier doing this with PP and any block that has itsy bitsy pieces in it always gets PP'd here.

gollytwo 01-25-2011 04:48 AM

Good job!

Rettie V. Grama 01-25-2011 05:18 AM

Very pretty. I don't see a Civil War motif, but do see a square diamond with facets coming out each side and corner.

Now, I'm just asking. Even though I have been a quilter for many years, many people, such as you in your explanation OBM use initials to explain your method or whatever. I would love to see someone use all the letters that mean something compile them on a page and publish them, so we all could know what you are talking about UFO.

wyckedquilter 01-25-2011 05:39 AM

Very pretty! :)

GladGrams 01-25-2011 05:49 AM

Congratulations, looks great! Hope you go on to enjoy the versatility of PP.

dreamgirl 01-25-2011 06:06 AM

Tally Kathy 01-25-2011 06:08 AM

Great job!

feffertim 01-25-2011 06:22 AM

really great. I'm about ready to try it

fireworkslover 01-25-2011 06:32 AM

As far as I'm concerned I would never (and no one else should either), consider making a block like that, unless it was paper pieced. As long as you will sew accurately on the line, you can't go wrong. Each section of the block will be the same and your block will come out perfect! This looks to take about an hour = 14 pieces in each 1/4 block. That's if you've chosen your fabric and cut it into strips already. This is pretty. You can be proud of yourself - it's OK.

Conniequilts 01-25-2011 06:43 AM

That's really gorgeous. I just recently learned paper piecing. I am loving every second of it. Once I got my brain to function backwards, all well.

I hope to do this block very soon. I love your color combinations for it.

amorerm 01-25-2011 07:16 AM

It is only tedious because it's your first time doing it. Once you get the hand of sewing on the reverse and trimming, it become second nature. It actually can be very relaxing because you "know" that points will meet where they belong, etc. etc.

Just do it, relax and enjoy. :D

piepatch 01-25-2011 07:44 AM

This is your first PP block ? I'll take your beginner blocks any day in the week ! This is beautiful !

trolleystation 01-25-2011 08:28 AM

If you can make that block, you can do anything. Congratulations.

Mariposa 01-25-2011 08:33 AM

Pretty block, and you did a wonderful job! :)

katlady 01-25-2011 08:50 AM

If you can do the spikey in the block that is showing you will be able to do flying geese. Just follow directions.

stacey65 01-25-2011 09:17 AM

wow what an awsome job!

Dianne1 01-25-2011 09:33 AM

Love it. It take awhile to get into P.P but once you do you will love the accuracy.

IMACountryGirl 01-25-2011 09:43 AM

Awesome job!
