That having many quilts in process at once is normal for quilters. Back me up . .how many different projects do you have in some form of completion? :)
Dear Husband: I have six quilt tops in various stages of completion. I get bored working on the same thing for long periods of time and I am in my sewing room usually five days a week. I like working with various colors that hold my interest and my interest changes from day to day. Some quilts are small, some are very large and the large ones are the ones I get tired of working on day after day with the same colors in the same pattern.
Some days I like simple, no brainer and easy patterns and some days I am up for the test of very complicated patterns. Usually I only have a set amount of time for sewing, on any given day, so I work on what will please me most for the time I have to work. If I am doing a large complicated pattern I wait until I have lots of time in the sewing room, if I don't have much time for sewing I will sew on the simplier things that I might be able to get close to completion for short days in the sewing room.
I also like to take shorter days and do my pressing and cutting for the tops. If I don't mix up what I am doing it would be very boring making quilt tops. Making quilt tops should give you a great deal of pleasure not wear you out. Some days I just don't want to think, so on those days I do whatever is the easiest to do without bothersome measurements and things best left for days when I am on top of my game.
There are no rules about quilting other than wallowing in pleasure and accomplishment every time you sit down to sew. I have found my working on dark colors in the winter time depresses me so I usually do very colorful tops in the winter. In the summer most anything is game for me.
