He was KIDDING, right?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Quilting yes, patchwork yes, but patching clothes and holes ... NO

I hear ya............I absolutely detest any kind of mending...even buttons! BUT let me make a purse and I don't have any qualms about buttons or zippers, and the only kind of patches I do is patchwork :D

I'll remember that! I have been asked to do alterations on suits.......not going to happen!

hubby split the backside of his NEW GOOD shorts..of course I patched them...they cost $28 and he only had them on twice!

DH destroys his work clothes. He won't let me patch them because by the time they need patching the paint splatters and oil based stain is holding them together.

I get asked by coworkers to fix this or that. My stock answer is "Would you like to borrow a machine?" They always say "No" or "I have a machine." I then tell them how long it will take and how much it will be. My mending work has fallen way off. Hmmm... must be the recession.

NEVER tell my husband my $5,000 machine can mend!!!

I am with you. I hate to patch anything and especially jeans. I will sew up seams or replace a button but that's about my limit. I keep telling my hubby I am not turning my hobby into a chore. LOL

Oh, just remembered a true story.

A customer of mine said her husband always managed to tear the seat of every new pair of jeans she bought him until she came up with the 'miracle patch'.

She embroidered love birds over the hole in the seat of his pants. Of course, he didn't notice but wondered why all the guys at breakfast that morning were snickering. Then the waitress said something 'cute'. Finally about half way through the day HE noticed!

He never tore the seat in a new pair of jeans again!

I'm with you all I hate to do repairs or hem jeans they are a pain and I don't like doing repairs or hemming I prefer starting with a piece of fabric and making something from it. I love that even tho I have had moments that I would like to heave it all in a ball and throw in the corner and my hubby can't unerstand that either he thinks it's to hard to make something from scratch. Oh well. Sue
