I haven't read all the thread but I can remember as a kid having blisters on my heels from the mending on the heels of my socks. I grew up with home made clothes all my life, so when I got married I informed my husband I WOULD NOT be mending clothes. If we were that poor we should not be having children. If something got a hole in it, in the rag bag it went. Last fall I put a patch in a shirt sleeve for my neighbor (he is a widower). He said he didn't care what it looked like, so I found some plaid flannel to match the burgandy flannel. Every time I see him outside in that shirt I cringe. He said he has gotten many compliments from his buddies on the fine patching job on his sleeve. I just hope they don't line up out in front.

I use this "Picasso" saying as my signature line!

Husband needed a button resewn on - it sat for weeks. He finally asked for a needle and thread and did it himself.

I hand them a card, from a friend who does MY patching!!!

I don't repair anything anymore, it's not worth my time or energy, I'd rather sew a quilt.

I hate to admit it, but, the last time my DH wanted me to patch his jeans, I bought the iron on kind, and patched them with that. I have been sewing forever, I have made clothes from wedding dresses, Mother of the bride dresses, to little baby clothes. But ... I do not want to alter clothes, or patch. And I don't ... do it. I do not enjoy those things, and this is my way of enjoying my time.. by creating...

My sewing machine isn't equipped to handle jean material. :) I even have 2 machines, lol. But as far as mending socks etc. Hah. Buy new ones is what I say.

All I do is make quilts and sew on a button or two. I did all the patching re sewing seams etc. and made some clothes when the kids were home they moved out and grew up. I can do mending but, I don't.

While raising my kids as a single parent, I supplemented my income by sewing, altering and patching for others. When that extra income was not longer needed...I no longer opened my machine for under $35-and that was 20 yrs ago! Needless to say, my sewing once again became my pleasure!

Paulswalia couldn't have said it better. Loved this comeback!
