Do any of you know anything about this sewing machine? I had never heard of a Red Cross brand until my daughter bought this one for me at a garage sale. Thanks for looking

karenpatrick 03-21-2011 08:08 AM

I've never heard of them but it looks like a nice machine.

Grama Lehr 03-21-2011 08:08 AM

She's a peach!!

Qbee 03-21-2011 08:09 AM

Wow....how cool! I have never heard of it either but it's really pretty. Congrats!

Tilladare 03-21-2011 08:17 AM

Ooooh She's a beauty!
Like everyone else so far, I have never heard of this make/model... could it be a "branded" Singer?

champagnebubbles 03-21-2011 08:27 AM

She is a keeper!

Qbee 03-21-2011 08:40 AM

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe made by Singer for the Red Cross during the war or something??

She will be a beauty when she's cleaned up. She looks like a badged New Home. The Ruby I looked at Saturday had a very similar cabinet, but fewer decals.

jlm5419 03-21-2011 08:50 AM

I've never heard of that brand either, but she sure is a beauty! She'll clean up nicely and probably work forever.

QuiltnNan 03-21-2011 08:51 AM

if you google "red cross sewing machine", one gets an ebay item that is a 1919 advertisement.

blossom808 03-21-2011 08:51 AM

LUCKY you. Thats so nice of your daugher. I love that machine. Have fun with her.

I agree with posting to this link. Miz Johnny most likely can tell you who made this machine. I don't think it is a Singer since the cabinet doesn't look like a Singer cabinet. New Home, Franklin, or one of the other earlier sewing companies before Singer, it could be. Beautiful cabinet!

KatFish 03-21-2011 10:46 AM

Never heard of that brand either. Great looking machine though.

wvdek 03-21-2011 11:17 AM

No, but she will be a real beauty cleaned up. Nice cabinet.

My guess would be the same, that Singer made this for Red Cross during the war! Congratulations on your find!

juliea9967 03-22-2011 05:33 AM

I've never heard of them, but she sure is a pretty little thing.

quilter68 03-22-2011 05:50 AM

I actually have a friend that has one she inherited from her grandmother. It is a beautiful machine. I know it needed to be worked on but I think she is thrilled with it. What a wonderful daughter. What a wonderful gift.

babyboomerquilter 03-22-2011 06:23 AM

Nice machine!

patdesign 03-22-2011 06:45 AM

L U C K Y Y O U !!!!!!

OmaForFour 03-22-2011 07:20 AM

From what I could search out on the Internet, this is a 1919 model made for the Red Cross. I think it was made by Singer. Ebay is selling an advertisement about it right now if you wish to look at the picture and try to read the ad.

How lovely she is! Great markings and cabinet. I envy you...

damaquilts 03-22-2011 07:28 AM

There are a lot of badged machines out there. It will be interesting to see what you can track down on this one. Too bad its so hard to follow the history of these old machines

ShirlinAZ 03-22-2011 07:32 AM

I read somewhere (maybe by lostn51) that Singer never did machines for badging by others. Some of the other companies did, and most machines of that vintage look very similar to the untrained eye. Post it in the vintage machines section and see what comes back. You might also PM lostn51. He's really good at this stuff. Anyway, your machine is a beauty.

Maia B 03-22-2011 07:53 AM

Oh, I LOVE it! Very cool.

pollym44 03-22-2011 08:07 AM

It"s a beauty!!!!

Deborah12687 03-22-2011 08:16 AM

This sewing machine I am not really sure but I think these sewing machines are made by Singer and they were used during the war to sew clothing and uniforms for the red cross for the troops.

GramaLaura 03-22-2011 08:16 AM

How beautiful :-D

lbosma 03-22-2011 09:39 AM

Google Minnesota A and compare it with your beauty. As best as I learned last year this machine was given a number of different names. Yours is beautiful! The one I picked up at the Goodwill last year for use at a Girl Scout Day Camp was in much rougher condition, but still worked wonderfully.

nwm50 03-22-2011 09:57 AM

Neato...never heard of Red Cross either but looks like you have a nice machine and with gorgeous table.

Heartwarming quilts 03-22-2011 10:22 AM

wow sure wish i had a daughter that bought me things like that at a garage sale. sure is pretty

Glenda m 03-22-2011 11:16 AM

Really a beautiful machine and cabinet!! Hope you find about her.

desertrose 03-22-2011 11:57 AM

I've never heard of a Red Cross but it looks nice and reminds me of my mom's Singer from the 1920's. I cried when I wore out the inner workings and at that time no one was refurbishing them.

Joyce Ann 03-22-2011 12:00 PM

Never heard of it but it looks like a nice machine

Divokittysmom 03-22-2011 12:08 PM

This will be an interesting mystery to unravel!! What a gorgeous machine!
