Just picked up the new Janome 7700. Been talking for some time about how my savings were first for some updates in the kitchen and then I was going to get a sewing machine with some bells and whistles. DH has been telling me for a year to just go out and get a new machine. I'm glad I waited. The new kitchen floor has been in for two weeks and then I went to look at the 7700. Wow, I think this machine does everything but make dinner. Am looking forward to trying all the stitches etc. Hope it is all it is cracked up to be because the savings are gone. Have to start from the beginning for something else. But that's the fun of having a goal.

Holice 10-23-2010 01:01 PM

You will love the extra space under the 7700 arm. Makes turning and twisting the quilt so easy.

MadQuilter 10-23-2010 01:01 PM

COngratulations. Hm, you'll have lots of time to save now because you will be tied to your new toy. No movies, no dinners out - - - Saving? Easy-breezy.

Have fun!

auntmag 10-23-2010 01:12 PM

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought the same machine 2 days ago. I love it!!!! It sews thru thick layers of fabric without a pause. I really like the push button stop and start.

SuziC 10-23-2010 01:24 PM

I think i will have to ask Santa for one......i have been very good

craftybear 10-23-2010 01:35 PM

Congratulations!

patdesign 10-23-2010 01:43 PM

Lucky YOU!

Terri C 10-23-2010 02:38 PM

The best thing about waiting is now you can sit and sew and not feel guilty about what you just bought. Who needs dinner when we have sewing to do :)

CarrieAnne 10-23-2010 02:41 PM

Congrats!~

gale 10-23-2010 02:46 PM

Congratulations!! I have the 6600 and love it so far. I could barely get dh to agree to it so the 7700 was pretty much out of the ballpark. lol. I bet you'll love it!

littlehud 10-23-2010 03:20 PM

I'm so happy for you. Have fun with your new baby.

miss_ticky2 10-23-2010 06:08 PM

annette1952 10-23-2010 07:02 PM

That is great! Have fun with your new machine!

earthwalker 10-23-2010 07:13 PM

Lovely...you'll be so busy with your new machine your savings will build in no time.

tjradj 10-23-2010 07:36 PM

Congratulations! She is a lovely machine isn't she? I got mine about a month ago and am totally in LOVE.
I'm even starting to like the built in walking foot - at first it took me a bit to get used to it.
I've even put mine on my Inspira frame and it works great - once I removed the handlebars so she could fit on the carriage!
When I want to do tabletop - I put it on the table.
When I want to frame quilt = I put it on the frame.
It's the best of both worlds.
AND, I still have my 'old" Janome 6260 as a backup.

i think they make crockpots just for quilters! ;)

congrats on your new baby! Awesome!
i have the 6600, and i love her so much!

jdavis 10-24-2010 03:52 AM

Let me know when you find a machine that DOES make dinner, and I'll be the first in line to get one!
congratulations on your new "baby!"

QuiltswithConvicts 10-24-2010 04:13 AM

Now that you have a built-in cone holder or 2, you need to go to Connecting Threads and get yourself the whole line of threads on the cones. Their thread is wonderful - almost lint-free!!! 5000 yards for $9.99 Comes in a whole range of neutrals from black to white and all in-between. I'm on my 2nd cone of cream.

While there, you can pick yourself up some of the most luscious, silky batiks for only $5.96 a yard!

Congratulations on your new baby. I have the 6600 and I think my favorite feature (there are so many) is the auto thread cutter!

Happy shopping. And many hours of happy stitching.

dolores 10-24-2010 04:33 AM

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. I really really love it. I am piecing a dresden plate quilt for a lady She saw the one I made and told me she wanted to make her one , and told me to let her know when I get it done and the price. Can you believe that. It takes a little bit to get used to it . You will love it. I can't wait to do the quilting on it.

Sewlmatesister 10-24-2010 04:59 AM

To Holice, your beautiful colorful avatar , is there a pattern for that??

nursie76 10-24-2010 05:02 AM

I am so happy for you! I'll bet you are doing the happy dance all over the place! Congrats on your new baby. Don't forget the pics.

sandpat 10-24-2010 05:18 AM

Congrats and have fun with that new baby!

Molly B 10-24-2010 05:25 AM

I just bought the 6600,,,,and love it ever so much. I do agree, that crockpots are for quilters.

Late Bloomer 10-24-2010 05:48 AM

I too just got the 6600 earlier this year and DH would definitely have a coronary if I mentioned upgrading - again!! Have not seen the new one yet (am afraid to go and see it) but I am too old to spend more money on machines anyway. Neither my daughter or DIL sew so I will just stick to my 6600. Now, if I can get myself over to the store and take those free lessons on using it, maybe I will be more productive and less frustrated!

Beginner girl 10-24-2010 10:08 AM

I would like to get a new machine to. I have a Viking-Husqvarna and I really like it, but I would also like something
that does alot more. I have noticed alot of people in quilting classes I have attended have the Jannome. Keep us updated
on how you like it so I can decide..

Thanks,
Jean

Beginner girl 10-24-2010 10:11 AM

Crock pots and time bake ovens...what time savers. Nothing
more frustrating than just really getting into a project only to
stop and make dinner....

Jean

P.S. How do some of you get such a nice signature on
here???

rosalyne 10-24-2010 02:12 PM

I have one too! The lights are great for my old eyes. If you do free motion quilting you need to get the fm bobbin case holder. It has made a great difference on the stitches. Another 30 $ but it's worth it. Also being able to move the needle left or right is good. Have fun. Roz

regm 10-24-2010 02:21 PM

Does fm refer to free motion. have never heard of fm bobbin case but will look into it.

rosalyne 10-24-2010 02:37 PM

Yes it means free motion quilting and the special bobbin case is different because it holds the thread differently for the feed for fm quilting and since I'm really new to fm quilting it's been great . Roz

rosalyne 10-24-2010 03:07 PM

Yes it means free motion quilting. The bobbin case has a different feed for fmq and I'm new at it and it's wonderful and worth the$30. The stitches are much more even. Roz

Beginner girl 10-24-2010 03:08 PM

What is a cone holder? Remember, I am new and pretty
uneducated with the terminology yet. Is it something that
can be used with all machines??

Jean

rosalyne 10-24-2010 03:20 PM

A cone holder holds large spools of thread that don't fit on our machines it sits along side of the machine. Have fun new quilter. Roz

mylela1776 10-24-2010 03:31 PM

Congratulations. Great Machine.

Beginner girl 10-24-2010 04:06 PM

Thanks Roz,
Would JoAnnes or someplace like that have these?

Jean

josi49 10-24-2010 04:28 PM

Congrats on your new Horizon 7700! I got mine about 3 months ago and absolutely love it. I'm doing way more quilting now than ever before because this machine makes it SO easy whether I'm FMQ'g or SITD. It's a joy and I know you will enjoy yours.

Jean the cone thread stand that Joann's sells is all plastic and over time the thread mast(long curved part that the
thread goes through) will bend over. There are some wonderful all metal cone thread stands that last forever.
You can get a good one at purple moose designs.

I bought mine from there.

purplefiend 10-24-2010 05:09 PM

There are some really fancy(a bit expensive)cone thread stands out there; I have 2 of them. Dh and DD gave me one for Mother's Day. I bought the other one. Beautifully functional works of art.

I also bought the new Janome Horizon a few months ago. I haven't regretted it!! It is an absolutely amazing machine!! I also bought a GMQ Pro quilt frame and just got it operational this weekend. I'm having lots of fun practicing with my Horizon. The extended throat area is perfect for machine quilting on the GMQ. It is also great for doing FMQ - it has a huge quilting table included. I used to make all of my clothes and my kids clothes. Now I just do quilts. The Horizon is probably much more machine than I need just for quilting, but who knows?? Once the grandchildren arrive, I will probably be making garments again. The nice thing about the Horizon is that it will do everything - it is not task-specific. Enjoy!! I know I am!!
