Have you tried the Olipfa lip edge rulers? There's a lip along one short end that catches onto the edge of your cutting mat. It really eliminates slippage. I bought my first one about 15+ years ago (5x24 size) and after the first time I used it I was in love. Now I own several sizes... they're always my go-to rulers. Dritz and Omnigrid now makes them, too.

That is the best idea yet that I have seen for holding rulers in place. I have tried putting and old iron on it. Which works but the cord bugs me. I have the handle, I don't like it, becuase it gets in the way of the lines. I have tried the not slip plastic backing, Ok...not. The sandpaper works the best, I use really rough grain I get from my husbands workshop. I am going to get a clip like yours.

I learned early on to use my hand like a giant spider instead of flat with my pinkie out over the ruler on my fabric. Also to hold the ruler in the center. I have had very little problems with slipping. Leah Day offered a great product if your ruler slips at daystyledesigns.com
