Mystery quilts are fun. Our guild did one last year and we are starting another one. It is something to see how different they all look when they are brought for show and tell.

I'm doing the McCall's three part mystery also - so far, so good!

I love mystery quilts. It helps to view prior mysteries by the designer to see if it is your style. Here's a couple of my early ones.

Cat owned those are both great - but the second one is my favorite :) Was it very hard ? How many parts were involved ? And lastly- I never thought to look at previous Mysteries to check out the style , Thanks for the tip :thumbup:

I'm participating in my first one and find it a fun project. The hardest part is waiting for the next set of instructions.

:)I love doing mystery quilts when the designers are flexible and kind to all particpants. I have enjoyed both PlanetPatchwork and Bonnie Hunter's mysteries.

I'm doing my first now. I'm not ordinarily a fan of mystery quilts - I'm not even a fan of quilts made with a specific pattern, I like to make (or re-design) my own.

But this one caught my eye because some of the ladies had already started it so I had an opportunity to get the general idea - it's a sampler quilt and I always wanted to do a sampler of different blocks. I also had a lot of scraps, and a ton of white on cream for the background so it was a perfect opportunity.

A bunch of us are doing here on QB it's called "Just Take 2" and you can find the thread if you do a search on that.

The Mystery BOM is for the most part free. They deliver blocks twice a month on two different websites (once at the first, and once at the 15th). But it's only free for 30 days after it's first posted, after that I think you have to pay $2.00 or something. It started Jan 1 - so the first and second sets of blocks are no longer free.

It's fun. but like I said, I wouldn't have done it if all the stars didn't align just right :)

Our Quilts of Valor group started one right before Thanksgiving. We chose our own colors and did all the cutting. Then DH and I left town until after the 1st of Jan. to be with the children's families for the holidays. They were supposed to email me the directions but I didn't get instructions while I was gone. When I returned they explained that they had found some discrepancies in the instructions and didn't want me struggling with them all by myself so they waited until I returned to straighten them out. As I work on it I realize it wasn't so much the directions as it is the fact that there are just so dang many pieces and seams in this quilt that it is a PIA to square up the HST and the ironing is a nightmare. It will be pretty when I finish it but right now it is daunting to just get it pieced together. I hope to have it finished by the end of the week and will post a picture of it when I do.
I really like the 4 Super Bowl Quilts you all posted. Wish that had been the quilt I am working on. This one may put me off of mystery quilts permanently.
