"Phyllis' Stitchin' Post" is my suggestion. But I'm usually much better with band names :P

When you do figure out your name, grab the URL right away. Godaddy.com sells 1 year domains for 10-15 dollars.

(My quilting business is "Wendy's Handmade Quilts" - but I'm not a brick & mortar store)

The Stitchin' Post is perhaps the most famous quilt store in Oregon - hosts to the Sisters Quilt Show.

I didn't read all twelve pages but I know this popped up on the first two....what's wrong with Quilting Grannie? Then in any print ads or business cards you could add a descriptive sentence in smaller print, like "fabric, crafts, widgets, whatever" to give people an idea of what you do/sell.

Good luck with it whatever you decide to do!

A bed & breakfast along with your quilt shop!!!!!!!!!! Think of the retreats you'd pull in. Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto...wouldn't it be wonderful to have retreats somewhere closer to the east.......

I know this is OT, but a quick search revealed retreats offered in ME, CT, NY, KY, MD, and NC , so it's not like there aren't ANY in this part of the country.... ;)

Ok granny heres one for you. "Purple Passion Quilting Empourium." After your state wildflower. Besides it is real pretty flower to use on stuff. Empourium also implies things besides quilting.

My husband has said this several times to me, but I don't want that much responsibility. Good luck, there's lots of support here on the web for you.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and input.
Right now my head is spinning with all the ideas and even more that you all had not come up with.

So many names, just one shop

Again - thank you. I will let you all know what name I have picked out when the time comes. Right now I am working on other business start up details ---- it's a lengthy process.

In the mean time -
Happy Quilting to all.

Granny I was going through some of my emails and noticed that I had misseed this last page, when I saw your post of thanks and read it, gave me another idea. You just gave yourself a name when you said "So many Names --- Just one Shop" that might just be the best name of all and you came up with it. Gerbie

sewmuchmore 06-18-2010 03:24 AM

You said it. :P That is a fantastic name. Just One Shop.

How about Phyllis' Quilted Mountains

jdavis 06-20-2010 12:54 PM

I am reminded of a bluegrass band, very popular in the 50's.
They were Don Reno, Red Smiley, and the Tennessee Cut-ups.

How about "Tennessee Cut-Ups Quilting & Crafts?"

I agree with an earlier post, you should include the word Quilt in the name. It makes searching so much easier for people.

Good luck with your dream!

"So Many Names---Just One Quilt Shop" if you want to add the name quilt to it. This would definitely be a unique name. Gerbie

QuiltingGrannie 06-21-2010 04:11 AM

I have a name!

At least I have it picked out. I need to get it registered and licensed and then I will let you all know what it is.

It took many many hours of thoughts and prayers and discussion but we are now one step closer.... so many more steps to go to having a shop.
God willing it will happen, but only in HIS timing. I want to make sure I do it right so it is a success!

sewmuchmore 06-21-2010 04:14 AM

woo hoo I bet that is a load off your shoulders . Can't wait to see what you came up with.

Fabulous!!!! You are right about waiting for His time. It will all come together. I just wish I was close enough to pop in for a visit.

Sew Much Fun Quilting
Sew and Sew Quilts (or Quilting)
Quilty Pleasures

My ideal quilt store would have a small corner (with superior lighting) to look at how various fabrics go together (or not). Also would have a "homey" feel to it, with lots 'n' lots of helpful gadgets, rulers, and easy patterns, with some finished projects around, to show how it could look when I get one done.

Good Heavens! This thread is almost 3 years old and Phyllis has been in business for a long time now under the name of....Quilter's Pantry.

She has a website, a blog, an Etsy shop, facebook and twitter accounts, teaches classes, provides longarm services, and gladly shares her knowledge and joy of quilting with anyone willing to listen. :)

Hoping it's not considered 'self-promotion' if I post her website even though this is/was her thread (feel free to edit, mods). :o
