Need advice please... large floral print?
1 Attachment(s)
Made a baby quilt this weekend. I originally thought I would use the large floral print for the border. DH says the baby will be freaked out by it. BFF says the big print is too big and too busy. I'm out of the pink fabric. Baby is a girl. What say you all?

Sorry DH, but I love the floral print, it totally blends in. Don't like the bright green.
Babies need to see colors..for stimulation. I LOVE that floral for the border!! It is soooo nice to see florals making a comeback.

I would put the floral on the back and use the green for the borders because the quilt center is overwhelmed by the floral border.

my first thought, also, is that the print would overwhelm the center. i do like the print, though, so maybe putting it on the back is the best choice.

I love the floral but I think it overwhelms the appliques. I would use the green border and put the floral on the back. Cute top!
Unless the quilt is a surprise for her, why not ask the baby's Mom which she likes better?
i love it. it is so colorful do not change a thing
I like the print, but think there is too much of it. Perhaps two borders - a thinner print, then the green.
I would not use the floral on the front for a border -- too overwhelming. It could work on the back. Like the green as a border.
I say it's absolutely perfect as started with the loud print as a border, so darn cute!
My two cents...I like the floral print.
Totally love that thin bit of yellow with the green border! The floral can brighten the back. Very cute quilt!
Could you get another pink, a bit lighter or darker?
sorry, but babies love things of interest. they look at all the details they can see. it's a wonderful bright new world out there.
I like the floral. The green border matches but is rather "ho hum" in my opinion.
I love Love LOVE the floral! I would put a flange of that bright green at the binding and use the same fabric as the border for the binding. I am a rebel like that!
I just love the fabrics you chose for the pinwheels! I like the combination of the green and the floral borders, and the pink cornerstones. So I think I would just choose some additional fabrics and have a multi-fabric border. If you want just one fabric for the border, I don't think there's anything freaky about the floral for a baby.
My vote: use the floral. It's big enough to not take away from the center. In my humble opinion, the green makes it look a bit dated. What a nice gift!

*** DH is wrong. Floral will work well. *** |
My vote would be the green with pink cornerstones to keep it light. If it works a narrow border of that yellow, then the green as it sets off the animals in the quilt. Love the floral but would prefer it on back. Just my taste......
I vote for the green border on the front and floral on the back and that will make it reversible. Win-win
I really like the floral and adds a lot of interest. I think green piping would also be nice and the floral to bind it. Perhaps you might consider a narrower floral border. If you need the size shown, maybe use an inner border of the background fabric. That would make it float.
I would go with green or yellow borders and bind with the floral.
I love that floral print and would definitely use it. Maybe put a narrow white border first, to give more emphasis to the blocks, and then I think the floral will look great.
I like the flower border. I would use the green for the back.

If you do use the floral print for a border - be aware of where the print falls as it goes around the four sides.
I am thinking you might need/want to treat it like a directional/stripe fabric. |
I would put a narrow green border between the top and the floral. That way it wouldn't call so much attention to the border. Very pretty.

I also like the narrow border and then the floral. Also, since the floral is a strong repeating pattern, it might be fun to work with that design.
Since it's for a baby, what would a baby like? As baby's develope, the first thing they can see is contrast in value and bright colors. They also look to "eyes". I think the way the floral is in the picture suggests eyes. I think the baby would be looking at the border. Then as baby developes, there's other things to see. |
I like the floral border. Cheerful.

Another vote for the floral. Maybe do two sides in floral and two in green. (I'm thinking top and right side=floral; bottom and left side=green). Hope this is clear????
Lucky baby girl. The quilt is adorable. |
Anyone keeping score?
Sandy |
I love the floral! It's modern and cheerful. I say keep it!
With all these responses, it will be interesting what your final decision will be! I like the floral but find both it and the green a little overwhelming, especially for a baby. I'm not seeing the appliqued blocks--just color. Do you have enough of the green with the little white flowers to use it for a border? Perhaps it's not as bold as the other choices.
My opinion----I would use the green for the border as shown and the print for the binding. That way it would be framed in the pretty pink fabric. This is a really cute quilt.
Babies love bright colors. They like to be busy. stay with the floral
I agree--floral on the back.
