I agree
Nice work though |

I'd use a tonal and not a solid. A creamy to match those flowers with a lavender print might be nice. It's not that this yellow is 'wrong', persay, just takes over a bit in the design. I'm guessing it's for a girl? |
Since you asked, is this quilt for the baby's mom or the baby? I always use prints more suitable to a baby if it's for a baby....otherwise, it is fine like it is.....
I like the idea of the yellow but is it a little too bright for the other yellows in the quilt? I'd hard to till from the photo. If you have a yellow that is slightly more gold than sunshine yellow? Otherwise, I like the suggestion of using the plaid that's used in the other blocks in the same rows.
The above was difficult for me to say, since I think all colors for children should be bright...but since other colors are slightly grayed, the grayer look would fit in better here, I think. |
I like the yellow too. It looks like there is a hint of a print in it. A small border in that color would look nice too with a wider border in the darkest purple you have in there. It's going to be darling! Hoping to see it when it is done. dani

How about pulling the green in from the border?

I just love the yellow. Your choice of fabrics is great and all your hard work too!
I would go with the yellow, it looks really good with the pink and purples and in my opinion you don't need more purple and pink but thats just me....
I definitely agree to not add more purple or pink.

The yellow looks out of place. I would use a medium purple.
The Yellow is PERFECT! as a complementary color and as a color of sunshine and joy...Just perfect for a new baby! It is what accents the purple accents and complements the other colors as well. Just the same as mixing flowers in the garden. It looks great and will be well-loved! Cheers, Cathy vj in MA

I like it and as someone else said babies love bright colors so make it bright and happy the baby will love it
JMO - the yellow is too bright, go with a more muted tone similar to the other colors in the quilt. Silvia
I agree that a more muted golden tone to the yellow rather than the bright sunshine yellow would do the trick.
May I suggest taking a picture on a more neutral background and not that green which really takes away from your QIP. I believe the yellow will work, but that green throws me off.

Thanks so much for all of the comments, I am still going to keep the yellow, but I was thinking almost everyones comments myself hehe.
the yellow and pink both are "clear" colors while the rest
of them are kind of "muted". if the yellow/green print under the squares is the setting triangles, could you use some form of the muted green ? or maybe that makes too much contrast. |
I agree. The yellow adds movement and life to the quilt. It looks a little out of place because the isn't enough of it. Add some to the border and it will all tie together.
I do not like the yellow, maybe a pink or cream. Penny
I love the yellow.
Keep it. JBJ137 in SC |
Possibly the purple floral would make it look like star points, or you might try for a softer yellow to tone it down a tad.

actually you never stated! Is she having a girl? I too think a green would look nice but a brighter green and then use the yellow in the border
You probably don't want to hear this, but I think that the green doesn't work. Everything else is fine. Green for a baby just doesn't do it for me.
I have read the suggestions and this will come down to your personal preference, but I LOVE the yellow.

I Love the yellow! I have been told that yellow can be a color that is very intimidating for quilters. Don't let it be. It is a complimentary color and I feel it goes well with what you have. Do you have a Quilt viewer (like the glass door viewers) you can buy one at Home Depot cheep.
Look at your quilt through it, so you can see the whole quilt from afar, you can get a better idea of how it will look when sewn up. I use my all the time to just check things out. If one thing pops out to much you will see it also. Then think about changing to maybe a lighter yellow. But as I see it here, I love it! Good luck with this charming quilt you are making, she will surely love it. |
I agree with JudyG, perhaps try just a softer shade of yellow. I used to avoid yellow and orange like the plague, but BOY they can sure add so much to a quilt when used judiciously!
I totally agree with the advice about taking out the yellow. Color is my thing, and as a quilting teacher, I help a lot of students with color choices. The yellow is definitely fighting with the rest of the colors. I would use something as muted as possible, as you've got a lot going on with all the different patterns - the eye needs a place to rest!
purple florel where the yellow is that is my choice
I can't figure out whether the green is part of the quilt or what it's laying on. I'm a yellowphine also, but pink or lavender would be nice. Real helpful, huh?
The green is my bed.... hehe. I thought I had mentioned that had no where else to lay it at the time.
I don't mind the yellow, but I think it should be a pastel buttery yellow (more warm, and could be almost a cream). Also, your yellow comes across as a lemon yellow to me, which is too cool and looks greenish. I think a pastel print in light buttery yellow or cream would work well. The only way that you will be able to decide, of course, is to try different fabrics. Good luck! WLee

K so here is what it is going to look like I went with purple and yellow for the borders and purple for the inset triangles and I am just loving it now! I think the purple with the yellow border just brought the whole thing together!
Great choice
