I am making this quilt for my mom for a lady she is working with who is have a baby. I am not sure if I like the yellow, please tell me what you think. I am having a hard time figuring out what fabric to use in that spot this was my first option, not sure what else I would use as of yet. Thanks for the input!

Pamela Artman 04-14-2010 05:02 PM

Personally, I'm not fond of the yellow in it. Since you are using a dark purple and the light lavender, how about a pale pink in that spot? Or maybe even white? Otherwise, I'd use the same plaid that's already in it.

JackieG 04-14-2010 05:02 PM

I'd stick with the purple floral print in the yellow areas. But I'm a Purple Fiend.

dungeonquilter 04-14-2010 05:02 PM

I like the yellow where you have it. It picks up the yellow in the pink print.

samroberts01 04-14-2010 05:04 PM

There is also a light yellow in the pink plaid, I am going back and forth on this, thanks for all the comments so far I will await more.. hehe.

I see it with your yellow fabric as the border also. That will really make the yellow in the quilt 'pop'. I like it and babies like different bright colors in a blanket or quilt. The baby will love it!

mamaw 04-14-2010 05:09 PM

I like the yellow. It brings out the subtle yellows in the prints and makes the quilt come to life.

sewgray 04-14-2010 05:09 PM

I would vote for some shade of purple/lavendar.

TammyD 04-14-2010 05:12 PM

I think this is going to be a pretty quilt. The yellow brings out the yellow in the green. One suggestion is another green? or a different shade of pink or purple. Maybe? darker? :-D

samroberts01 04-14-2010 05:15 PM

The problem I have too is that our Joanns is moving to a bigger store so right now they are very limited on fabric. Do you think one of the other fabrics I used would look good in place of the yellow?

memathomas 04-14-2010 05:38 PM

i like it just as is very very nice

I like the thought of the yellow, although I think I might have used a softer yellow. To me, it's just a little too bright.

I agree with the purple floral - with the pink centers, it draws the pinks & purples together and provides a focus.

Whatever you choose will be lovely and very appreciated!!

cheryl222 04-14-2010 06:22 PM

I like the yellow also. yellow and purple are complementary colors and look great together. I would also use the same yellow for a thinner border before the green.

Lucky Patsy's 04-14-2010 06:35 PM

I love that green background that the blocks are laying on!

ctack2 04-14-2010 06:44 PM

Yellow is a good idea, but I agree that it is too brightn and it being a solid color. All the other fabrics are some kind of print and I think that one should too. I think a yellow print of some sort in that spot.
Really like the fabrics used in this (except the yellow of course lol)

Pretty Pretty. I think I agree with JudyG and maybe try a softer yellow or maybe white with a little yellow print in it. Still, all and all it is pretty just like it is. I'm looking forward to see what you do. :)

Scratch the second part of that comment - wouldn't work with this quilt.

I like the yellow, pretty quilt...

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 04-14-2010 07:12 PM

I like the yellow.

Lori B. 04-14-2010 07:46 PM

I like the yellow. It brings out the yellow in the prints.

BellaBoo 04-14-2010 08:28 PM

I would use the pink plaid and not add another color.

dkabasketlady 04-14-2010 09:01 PM

I like the yellow, but a lighter shade would look better since there's yellow in the block next to it!

memathomas 04-14-2010 09:18 PM

do u know if it's a boy or girl?????

trif 04-14-2010 10:04 PM

Please don't use the yellow! If you look at how beautiful the quilt is with purple, lavender, even y

trif 04-14-2010 10:06 PM

Oops sorry didn't finish, what I'm trying to say is with the yellow you picked it stands out and that becomes your focus, try a lighter yellow if you want to use yellow, good luck I'm sure it will be great

charismah 04-14-2010 10:20 PM

I like the yellow....it is soft and pretty.

earthwalker 04-14-2010 10:36 PM

I'm for the yellow also.

amma 04-14-2010 10:37 PM

I like the green that you have the blocks laying on... I would use that :D:D:D

KiwiQuilter 04-14-2010 11:47 PM

I think that a nice light shade of green would be lovely. Something lighter than the green that is in the pink fabric.

Gal 04-14-2010 11:59 PM

I agree with Cheryl, yellow and purple are comlpementary colours,(opposite each other on the colour wheel)they vibrate off each other and add vigor to the composition. If you want a lively quilt then keep in the yellow.

Deecee 04-15-2010 12:20 AM

I would try green, but not necessarily the shade in the background.

Sheila Elaine 04-15-2010 12:48 AM

I don't much care for the yellow. If you have other colors, audition different ones & you'll probably find one you like that will go with it & make you happy. Is it laying on a green sheet or something? That may be throwing the yellow off in the blocks. Can you put the blocks on a black or white background to see if that helps to determine what goes better. I'm all for changing things up until I get what makes me happy. Be sure to let us know what you decide.

This.

While it doesn't "GO" all matchy-matchy, I think that's why I like it. The pop of yellow is unexpected AND it compliments the flowers.

stitchhappy 04-15-2010 05:56 AM

I like the yellow also.

me too I love purple

littlehud 04-15-2010 06:58 PM

I'm not crazy about the yellow. I like the idea of a light pink instead.

samroberts01 04-16-2010 04:26 AM

Well thanks for everyones input, I am keeping the yellow. My mom liked the yellow and she said to keep it, which is easier for me I wont have to redo it! LOL. Thanks again!

babyquilter 04-16-2010 06:21 AM

I never use yellow for baby quilts. I f the baby is the least bit jaundiced, the yellow just makes them look worse. And that just worries the new mom!

craftybear 04-16-2010 06:41 AM

I like the yellow and maybe do the border in yellow also. As that one fabric has little yellow flowers in it. Happy Quilting!
