My Avatar is a log cabin and it was all scraps. I will try and post it as a picture here.

I love the log cabins. My husband & I bought a book (Judy Martin) and fabric back in the mid 1980's when on a trip to Vermont & his mother made us a quilt.

I have taken up quilting over the past 5 years (having a sewing background). Found another Judy Martin (update) book. Made a scrappy for my Uncle using her technique. The quilt top turned out perfectly square using it.

Her books offer great advice.

You can go to www.judymartin.com and find all of her books and if they're still available.

Anyone ever make a children's log cabin? Any suggestions for fabric or pattern?

Illinois, I know what you mean. I get the quilt pieced and then I struggle with what designs in which to quilt it with. I don't do hand quilting as I have arthritis in my hands but I quilt by machine. I want to learn free motion quilting but so far I am terrible at it. I need one of those stitch regulators but they don't make them for home sewing machine (except Berdina) and you have to have a frame.

1930's fabric looks great and I think they fit for a child at least for a little girl. Or for a little boy novelty fabrics would work.
