I am doing this quilt as a wedding gift for my cousin. (throw/wallhanging size)

This is the center. I am trying to deicide on the next border, I am thinking Red with white applique words (love, cherish etc..) and then finishing with a white border with celtic work as the final border.

Or should that be reversed any suggestions greatly appreciated.

erstan947 07-26-2010 05:58 PM

Wow that is great.

Moonpi 07-26-2010 06:01 PM

That is going to be spectacular. Your plans sounds wonderful.

Mousie 07-26-2010 06:03 PM

That is gorgeous and your ideas sound good to this mouse:thumbup:

dkabasketlady 07-26-2010 06:05 PM

WOW!!! That's gorgeous!!
Red with the white words and then the white border as you were thinking!!

Pam 07-26-2010 06:15 PM

Very pretty! May I suggest a red flange to frame this BEFORE the red and white border, then proceed. A tiny frame around this makes certain that everyone knows this is the center of attention.

How did you do this? It is gorgeous? Is that embroidery or braid?
Take a bow!

Deborah12687 07-27-2010 05:22 AM

I would suggest a deeper maroon color for the boarder or if you know what colors she is using for her wedding that would be really nice.

justwannaquilt 07-27-2010 05:45 AM

I love the idea of a flange around the center before any borders.

It is using Bias strips, my first try at this method, much easier than it looks

Quilt Love 07-27-2010 09:44 AM

she is using what is called apple red. Basically the color on the quilt

dotcomdtcm 07-27-2010 09:44 AM

You did a great job>

Your center is gorgeous and I love Pam's idea :D:D:D

CoriAmD 07-27-2010 11:53 AM

no suggestions but just want to say, that SURE IS PRETTY!

Grama Lehr 07-27-2010 11:59 AM

Beautiful!!

BellaBoo 07-27-2010 12:03 PM

It's beautiful! I would see how the words would look around the pattern before cutting them. It may lessen the elegant look. A beautiful script letting would work.

OK I am a new quilter, I love the idea of a flange but have never done one, so I have a few questions. Does the flange lay inward (on top of the center peice) or point out toward the border? next how wide do you suggest? (the bias strips are 1/4" and 3/8" not sure if that helps). But I like the idea of a flange. Doing a Red flange do you still do a red border or would you move into a white border? So many questions

sewyogaga 07-27-2010 12:56 PM

That is exquisite work! I think your plan is great. I like the idea of words-small, embroidered in a very fine, elegant script-Mama Bear's signature-like?

Dee 07-27-2010 05:17 PM

Very stunning.

littlehud 07-27-2010 05:41 PM

Wow, that is awesome. I think your border ideas sound wonderful.

teacherbailey 07-28-2010 02:26 AM

LOVE IT!!!! I like your original plan with the words in white on red for a border....can't wait to see it when it's done. Be sure to post us all a picture!

drdolly 07-28-2010 05:42 AM

STUNNING! the recipient will probably just let you look with no touching.

That's not saying much since it looks incredibly difficult to me, lol. I am very impressed with how even everything is. Beautiful work!

Sparky 07-28-2010 06:44 AM

Not sure if anyone else needs to see what is meant by a flange, so here is the link I followed to watch a U-Tube video. http://www.quiltbug.com/articles/borders.htm

This reminds me of very fancy Victorian quilts which leave room for lots of cross hatching in the quilting, so you might consider leaving a fairly large white area before adding your next border.

With such a great start you can't go wrong!

psquared52 07-28-2010 06:48 AM

Your work is just exquisite!! What is the technique called? This is definitely something I would love to learn how to do! Please post pictures as it progresses.

SNUGQUILT 07-28-2010 06:59 AM

Gorgeous!! I like your ideas for the borders...

This just a great quilt. Thanks for the video on how to work with a flange. Very helpful. But that quilt is just sooo beautiful.

quilt3311 07-28-2010 08:21 AM

That is beautiful, your ideas sound like it will be beautiful when finished. I liked the idea of a small border of red to accent the center. I hope you will send a photo when its done.

icon17 07-28-2010 08:24 AM

Love the Celtic work. I think red with white words

Did you use a pattern? Your work is stunning. I would love to see a close-up of the bias. I would love to try to make something like this.

psquared52 07-28-2010 08:51 AM

I also like the idea of a flange...but consider a color other than red...perhaps black. It would really highlight your amazing work.
