Need easy 2.5" strip patterns!

I'm still reorganizing my sewing room. Boy, I've found things I haven't seen for years! I've also found lots and lots of 2.5" strips; didn't know I had so many, lol. I would like to know what are some of the strip patterns you have tried? (One pattern I don't want is the one that is just long strips sewn together.) Thanks in advance for your help.

Log Cabin - great pattern for using strips.

katier825 01-15-2012 05:46 AM

Try Moda Bakeshop. Sweet Menagerie is a very easy pattern. I'll try to upload a picture, but my computer hasn't been very cooperative this morning.

Quiltngolfer 01-15-2012 07:48 AM

The Lintotts have some great books with 2.5 inch strip patterns. They are easy and pretty. The books are reasonable on Amazon.

carolaug 01-15-2012 07:51 AM

crafty pat 01-15-2012 07:57 AM

Handcraftsbyjen 01-15-2012 08:13 AM

Strip Tube there are a lot of variations and they go together quickly.

kheliwud 01-15-2012 08:19 AM

I recently did a sewing studio clean up too! It was like finding a hidden treasure! LOL! Try these patters:
http://www.cozyquilt.com/Aspx/ProductList.aspx?CatID=15.
I bought one of their books and they give great directions!
Be sure to post your pics, I get the best inspiration from my fellow quilters!

lynnsim 01-15-2012 08:41 AM

Thanks for the responses. I'm getting ready to leave to babysit our youngest DGS for a few hours; I'll check these sites when I return.

Krisb 01-15-2012 12:46 PM

You can also use them for binding. The binding doesn't have to be all the same fabric, and scrappy binding can look very cool, depending on the center of the quilt.

Hidden wells is made with strips, looks hard but really isn't

I'm making a Pineapple Blossom quilt with some of mine. I got the pattern from Bonnie Hunter from her www.quiltville.com web sight. She has lots of scrappy quilts that use 2 1/2" strips.

fayzer 01-15-2012 02:44 PM

I made a quilt top in a few hours using 2 1/2" strips doing the jelly roll race. Go HERE

Scraps 01-15-2012 02:53 PM

My Avatar and 2nd quilt is Field of Flowers all in polka dots that my granddaughter asked for.

sahm4605 01-15-2012 02:53 PM

I have done two quilts now that were the hidden wells pattern. I will see if I can post the one i did with a jelly roll. depending on how many repeats you have of the strips will make the top look different. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t-t174943.html this used one jelly roll but if you have two or three of the same or similar colors it would look and be better. hope this helps.

katz_n_kwiltz 01-15-2012 04:18 PM

Bento Box is quick and easy ... and spectacular when done. It doesn't have to be Asian fabrics, I've seen them done in batiks, two colors, etc.

I use strips to make 9 patch quilts, and almost everything else. I love quick piecing with strips.

stichinluvr 01-16-2012 07:12 AM

Great thread. Thanks for all the possibilities.

lynnsim 01-16-2012 07:16 AM

firequilt 01-16-2012 07:20 AM

I just made a dresden plate using 2.5 inch strips. Found the pattern in archives great pattern!

IdahoSandy 01-16-2012 08:03 AM

Scrap-Basket Sensations by Kim Brackett has just what you are looking for. I am like you don't want just straight sewen 2 1/2 inch strips. I got mine from Amazon.com

Donac, Thank you so much for posting the information and website to MaryQuilts. That is a great site, and I am going to spend the rest of the day studying those quilts. Makes me want to cut up my entire stash into 2 1/2 inch strips.

sewbizgirl 01-16-2012 08:46 AM

Tube quilts are fast and easy, using strips. Look on the Missouri Star Quilt Company's website for tutorials. They have a bunch of free videos for quilting with precuts.

Strip Scrap Bargello. Goes fast and easy, you do not need to match seams and no extra fabric except for borders.

Sounds interesting, but I'm not going to do a Google search for "strip joint". LOL Where might find this pattern?

Check out http://www.laundrybasketquilts.com/ I just purchased her latest book. It uses a lot of strips! Luann

lynnsim 01-16-2012 10:58 AM

Thanks for the strip patterns; they're all great!
nstitches4u, I did a google search for strip joints quilt pattern and found this link: http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/...34&Parent_Ids=
I like it, but can't afford the $8.50 price; maybe someday I can find a free pattern for it. I also liked Strip Off & Strip Search; I might be able to figure those out.

GagaSmith 01-16-2012 01:45 PM

There are some great ideas here. Thanks to all for sharing.

KathyPhillips 01-16-2012 02:11 PM

Wow! That is a beautiful pastel quilt. I'll have to try it, but I will do strip piecing which will go much faster.
