Need help with directions for quilt.
 

Came across a free pattern "Homespun Holiday" from Quilt Magazine, Oct/Nov 2013. Copied what they posted in their website,but it has no directions on how to put it together. Don't understand how they did the four corners. If Anyone could help me with that, it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried on the internet to locate directions to no avail. Thanks for reading. I found their free pdf. Very odd that they didn't include directions.

It actually doesn't look that difficult, just time consuming. I like to deconstruct quilts and figure out how they're made. Here's the breakdown of how I would do it:

The center block is a square-in-a-square.

The 4 corners of the block are a basic pineapple block. Looking at the red and white block in the upper left corner of the quilt pattern, here's how I would sew it: Start with the white square in the corner. Sew a red triangle over it and trim; you should now have a HST. Sew a white "log" (rectangle) on the two red sides of the HST. Sew another red triangle over the logs, trim the excess. Repeat until you have that section of the block completed. Make sense?

The 4 inner sections are flying geese.

I think the free PDF has alternate colors (the yellow around the center square), and that's why it only includes cutting directions. The original block was paper pieced, and so the cutting directions are not precise cuts that are ready for traditional piecing. They are slightly larger than you need to paper piece.

If you give me a size that you'd like the blocks to finish at, I can print the paper pieced block for you. I'd suggest 16 inches as a good size to make a 72" square quilt, depending on borders.

You can also make it with 8 Flying Geese sections and triangles to complete the angled sets.

I generally draw a pattern on grid pattern and see if I can deconstruct it.

That PDF is just cutting instructions for the quilt with alternate coloring.
