The first picture below is from the cover of Judy Neimeyer's Bali Wedding Star pattern. The second picture shows the fabric groupings I've come up with (so far) for the rings. Please give me your honest opinions about the fabrics -- does anything 'jump' out as being too bright, too dull, out of place, etc. This is an expensive and time consuming project and I'll appreciate any help I can get!!! Sorry about the second one being a little bit dark, but with the flash the colors were all washed out. Thanks.

I think your selection is beautiful.
The fabrics/colors look great. I find that red stands out from
all the other colors, so use it with care. |
I like your colours. It will be more colourful then your example but I think it will work out well.
I agree that you should use red with care, but choice of fabric is fabulous
I think they blend perfectly, and as for the red "jumping out" I don't think it is to over powerful. and red means love and aren't weddings about love?? can't wait to see the finished quilt! but keep us updated along the way please!

I looked really closely and like to give very honest constructive criticism. However, I can't find any fabric choices to criticize. Very nice grouping of fabrics. I would not hesitate to make suggestions but I really like the fabrics. Good luck with the project. Piecing curves frightens me. LOL

Oh man do you have a problem....I love both layouts.

You did a great job on your fabric selection.

I love your selection
I really like your selection, like to see red in a quilt
Beautiful! pls post a picture when you finish the top.
beautiful choices IMO!
Very pretty fabrics.
But two of the reds caught my eye first thing in both arrangements. They seem "brighter" than the rest of the fabrics. I'm not saying if that's good or bad - but they are like spotting a cardinal in a pine tree. |
I think the red will be fine and will blend nicely. Can't wait to see it finished.
I like your color combinations & believe that a little bit of red will add sparkle.
I love your colour choice.
One suggestion: in the third column in the bottom row, the switch from dark to light is rather sudden. Maybe it would help if you switched the fourth fabric (from the bottom) with the third one, that's the one with leaves. |
Your color selection is beautiful. I think the quilt will be very pretty. Show us when you finish it.

You have one fabric in the first picture, 5th row over that is a pale background with a green pattern on it that stands out to me as being too spotty for the rest of the fabrics. I think your colors are beautiful.
Your choices are great. Look forward to seeing the finished project.
Love your choices!
Very nice!!!!!!!

Your choices are perfect. Good luck with your quilt.. Its going to be wonderful. I think the beiges would read as yellow.
Beautiful fabrics and colors. I can't see any reason why this would not be spectacular.
Did you buy jelly rolls or did you cut yourself. I have this pattern for the bedrunner and don't know either how to go about the selection. Should I buy different jelly rolls or just select different tones of fabric and cut myself. How did you select???
I love it!!!

I love batiks. "nice job" I think they would all fit.
I am making a dresdan variation out of batiks with a batik as my background (light tans) and fuschia batik as my centers. Cant wait to see your quilt when it is done. Quilter_kjm from Michigan. HAVE FUN! |
Will you be adding other background fabrics, or using the lights in your selections? I too, question the larger leaf print, is it light or dark? I love the color combination you have chosen, and don't think the red will pop too much nor draw the focus, it feels like a team player to me and I think it will brighten the quilt. Very nice.

I agree with many before...I think your fabric selections are GORGEOUS for this project. Looking forward to seeing your progression. How many different color choices does the project call for...you have a great variety!!
I love all of your fabrics, I don't think you can go wrong, they should make a beautiful quilt..
Fabric selection is perfect. I love J.Ns patterns and this one is really outstanding. Please post your progress with your project.
I echo everyone else. This quilt will be beautiful when completed. Please send us a photo when done.
Wonderful color choices. Keep us posted on your progress.
I think your selection of colors is beautiful! Please share with QB as you quilt.
Is the top group the background and the lower group the rings? If so, the darkest of the background might be too close to the ring color causing the rings to "disappear" in places (which could be an interesting twist).
I recom mocking up a full ring + background to see if you like the results. (That's what I did when I made my first and last DWR 11 years ago) |
you have a great eye for color and they blend quite nicely. What you have done thus far is simply beautiful
