I'm not good at suggesting colors - it depends on personal taste, but I love the three you have already.

IdahoSandy 09-21-2011 07:16 AM

What you have is ok, but also need a darker blue and neutral color, along with a pink that is in the print material.

ShirlinAZ 09-21-2011 07:22 AM

The green pictured may be a bit too "olive". Try something more in a teal, ad a dusty pink. It will be great.

amazon 09-21-2011 07:51 AM

I'd go with the light blue and add a dark blue, black and the cream. A darker green would look good also.

joyce888 09-21-2011 07:53 AM

Have you tried a medium shade of blue and a charcoal gray?

Ditto

I have done qults with the middle fabric and I usually pulled the color from the pattern itself. I like the green for the blue in the quilt. I am sure you will get lots of help with this.

I'd like to stay away from pink since the quilt is going to a man. so I guess I need to find the Navy and dark green to use.

I'm gonna use a cream color for the back ground.

Sense its going to a guy, would he object to a dark burgandy? I love the quilt pattern, and the fabric is very nice!

oh munner 09-21-2011 12:56 PM

I'd never add pink. Pink and blue went out with the 50's. If I were to add another color it would probably be green but so far it looks good just as it is.

QuilterMomma 09-21-2011 01:18 PM

Oooo, to add an opinion on color, are you sure?

Here it is:

I have made this pattern and did it in teals and pinks which turned out great.

When you do the fans, be sure to have a nice graduation of color and that when you line it up with the star that you do not have the same color touching there. I did the dark in the center top of fans and then down to light and had each blade a shade different. This will work with your focus fabric you have selected. If this is for a man, then you definitely do not really want the pink because it will pop next to your darkers that are in the mix. If it were me, I would stay in the blues from a dark blue to the charchol gray blue. It will accentuate your feature fabric.
Now since it is for a man, is he a real neat person or does he have an occupation that he gets dirty at job. If you do the cream, I would consider this. Again, if were me, i would make my background area a different color because of the "man" thing. Not all guys consider it to be a work of art on the bed.
This pattern does go together well and be sure to check your measurements as you go because of the special cutting on the background squares and peaks you have to do. This is where I had some difficulty with. I quilted mine in some feather fans for the background areas and in the ditch on pieced fans and a large feather over stars to fill the points out.

Have fun and let us see what you choose.

Wow, beautiful, I have all 3 fabrics. Love the blue paisley.

oops! Hit wrong button. Maybe try a lavender color, or a pink and white.

madamekelly 09-21-2011 02:51 PM

White, pink, medium blue, medium green, pale pink, black, all are in the print fabric?

I only see 3 fabs and the fabs you show would be beautiful in that pattern

coaldigger 09-21-2011 03:04 PM

i would use black and navy.

MargeD 09-21-2011 04:47 PM

For starters, I would pick out a white or light cream fabric, as well as a medium blue, maybe a light pink and then a navy or black for contrast. Just be sure there is enough contrast between the fabrics to highlight the pattern of the quilt. That's what I would do anyway. By the way, don't you love that paisley? That fabric has been around a long time in different colors, it's almost a staple in a fabric stash, and it's very pretty. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

CristyK1 09-21-2011 05:21 PM

It is called a Log Cabin Shaded Broken Star quilt. It is a stand alone pattern I picked up in Shipshawana, Indiana. It is done by Log Cabin Creations.

I don't know how many colors you have to have but I would get
some pink and black to go with the paisley and light blue.

pattipat 09-21-2011 06:57 PM

Stunning! Love the colors!

Good choice! Don't go too dark on the green.. try to match what is in the paisley, and that would give you a dark/medium/light to play with.

I have the same paisley so I pulled it out and chose some fabrics I would use.
Since you already stated in your beginning paragraph you were not going to use the green pictured, I found one I thought would go. It has a very subtle leaf pattern and cannot remember wher I got it. The dark navy is at Walmart as are the two blues and I believe I also got the off white/beige there, too. I would not use white white as that would be too stark. Too much beige will wash it out. Hope this helps.

leiladylei54 09-21-2011 10:32 PM

The pink shade in the paisley print and maybe black or navy that's in that print, too.

leiladylei54 09-21-2011 10:42 PM

I like your new choices shown above my post.

leiladylei54 09-21-2011 10:43 PM

Oooops, I thought it was the original poster who created this thread....my mistake.

QuilterMomma 09-22-2011 05:30 AM

Wvdek has a good show there of colors. Since it is for a guy, I would not add any pink.

Blinkokr 09-22-2011 12:48 PM

Cristy add a pale pink and black, get rid of the green

Have a Blessed day
Ellen

Marcia D 09-22-2011 01:14 PM

rose and navy

busygranny 09-23-2011 09:35 AM

Needs some pink and a white and a better green.

This is what i was thinking. or maybe two colors of pink light and a dark. Depending on what you are going for.

Taughtby Grandma 09-23-2011 06:14 PM

That sure is a pretty quilt you are using for the pattern. How about adding a mauve and off white to the colors?
