Ok ladies and gentleman. I'm getting in the mood for my retreat in November and I'm trying to pick out some fabric to match what I already have to save a little money.

I want to use the center and left fabric (not the green) but I need two more colors. The center and one of the strips.

The pattern I am using is under the fabric picture.

I like what you have so far. It is hard to see clearly in the picture, but are there not 6 colors in the fans?

bearisgray 09-20-2011 08:01 AM

I'd add a pink and some of that dark that's in the fabric - is it navy?

CristyK1 09-20-2011 08:02 AM

Opps I should have pointed out that I'm not gonna do the fans. I'm going to use a cream or white colored squares there in stead.

Definitely a rose or mauve blender type, then a print with mauve and blue flowers. WalMart has one in their basic fabrics that might work. I like green, but that one reads a little yellow to march the green in the paisley. It may be my computer and it will be fine sewn together. I love that green fabric in quilts. Do you remember where you purchased it?

The pattern is gorgeous. Such fun to have a dedicated time to work on it.

edit: I can see a navy blender, too. Because I'm not a blue fan, I tend to forget blues, but I do like a strong rose color with that paisley.

CristyK1 09-20-2011 08:04 AM

Irishrose, believe it or not, all three of those came from walmart.

lheartsl 09-20-2011 08:07 AM

Like what you have so far....
i was thinking cream, darker green....

Glassquilt 09-20-2011 08:08 AM

Something to pick up the pink.

DogHouseMom 09-20-2011 08:09 AM

The green doesn't quite match the green in the print. How about using a pink instead? That would also brighten it up.

Scissor Queen 09-20-2011 08:17 AM

The green you have is too olive. You need a greener green. I'd definitely add a pink to pick up the pink in the print and you can probably add a navy too.

ditto!

MadQuilter 09-20-2011 08:26 AM

I'd change the green to the hue of green that is in the paisley and add a rosy/red from the paisley. You can play with value.

paulswalia 09-20-2011 08:45 AM

Black and a rosy pink would be my choice.

CristyK1 09-20-2011 08:50 AM

I had not planed on using that green. But it was in the pic I pulled up and I don't have my camera or phone with me right now to take a new picture.

I'd like to stay away from pink since the quilt is going to a man. so I guess I need to find the Navy and dark green to use.

I'm gonna use a cream color for the back ground.

Oh.

SharBear 09-20-2011 09:35 AM

I would add a dark blue and a pink / mauve!

katz_n_kwiltz 09-20-2011 10:12 AM

or you could even try a black in there every so often, the colors are great, but im with everyone, the green u have is too olivey, freshen the green, think spring leaves..
and a blue would be good, like the cream, and yes, bring out some pink too.
you asked..
katz

I used the paisley with a small pastel blue and white check. Really liked the outcome.

Can you post a picture? Sounds interesting.

mom-6 09-20-2011 03:23 PM

I'd go with a navy or black and a clear green like in the paisley.

Too bad the pink/mauve wouldn't work! But I agree, it might not go over well for a male recipient. Some of my guys would like it, my DD (go figure!) and some of the rest would not.

quilterella 09-21-2011 01:01 AM

I too, would add burgundys and blues and maybe some grays. I love your paisley fabric. May I ask what the name of the pattern is and where is it available to buy?

scrapykate 09-21-2011 02:34 AM

I'd go with a rose/mauve blender color as the medium fabric.

Thats my suggestion too ! Since you want to stay away from the 'pinks' what about a brighter greener closer to the color in the paisley.

tmg 09-21-2011 02:56 AM

Need a greener green. Add some pink and a dark blue. Just my opinion.

Krystyna 09-21-2011 03:21 AM

Why not pick out two that match the selvage on the paisley?

rona thickpenny 09-21-2011 04:09 AM

PinK and the green you already have .would be my choice .

hunters grammy 09-21-2011 04:14 AM

I can't tell what the darkest color is in the paisley - but I would definitely use some of that color (black or dark, dark blue)

mea12 09-21-2011 04:26 AM

I also vote for pink--but not pastel..more of a vivid cherry tone and black.

smagruder 09-21-2011 04:55 AM

Oh, that is going to be yummy! I love the center fabric and think the grey on the left is great. I do agree that the one on the right is not right if the color is true to what we can see. Good luck and let us see your work in progress.

I have trouble picking fabrics. So I will be watching post comments & be sure to post picture updates.

Just Fabric 09-21-2011 05:15 AM

I would go with a brighter green, and not a cream color but white, and then maybe a darker shade of the blue, but not navy.

babindg12200 09-21-2011 05:49 AM

The green doesn't fit, try pink, or another blue, maybe darker blue.

TanyaL 09-21-2011 05:50 AM

I think your choice of navy and dark green would be excellent choices for a man. I DEFINITELy wouldn't add anything in the pink, mauve family for a man, not even every woman likes pink and most men don't like it, only put up with it.

angiecub 09-21-2011 05:53 AM

I agree a pink to go with the pink in the paisley would be nice, and as for the green you have, Wal-mart sells a darker shade of green in that same fabric. Maybe you could try that instead and see if it might work better.

cmathena 09-21-2011 06:14 AM

I like the pattern will you tell us the name and is it in a book? I would go with a navy blue and maybe a green.

Marilynsue 09-21-2011 06:41 AM

How about using a darker blue and maybe an ivory!

redmadder 09-21-2011 06:44 AM

You could go with a very deep fuchia and a darker green.

lillybeck 09-21-2011 06:50 AM

I would go with a marbled pink and a deeper blue

CarrieC 09-21-2011 07:01 AM

My two cents - the darker steel blue color and since this is a man, what about going DARK on the "pink" say into a really deep salmon? I don't think that darker shades of pink are as unmanly.

Another option is to pick up that beautiful dark green in the print.

I hope you post and let us know what you come up with!!!!!
