I was going to suggest the same thing, four patch or 9 patch with alternating block. I use the same fabric for the alternate block and one of the borders.
This one was out of stash, except for the backing.

Get a charm pack, or cut 5" squares from your stash...sew 5 of them together that's row 1. Make a few more rows just like that and sew them together. Sew on a skinny border then a wider one, bind and done. Very quick and simple, no pattern necessary.

How about a rail fance or a D9P.

Ditto. I'd be afraid to let the baby spit up on that one! You really let the fabrics do the work for you! Great Job!

I am making a disappearing nine patch for a baby quilt for a friend of mine that is a Grandma for the first time. I am using 4 1/2 white strips for sashing in between the blocks, and Birdie charm squares (MODA) for the disappearing nine patch blocks. I also purchased a honey bun to frame the blocks with. Since it is for a litlle girl, I am using the pink, yellow and turqoise Birdie charm squares from 4 packages. It will be pretty when its done!
There will be enough left over to make an additional baby quilt for a little boy.

When I have a baby's quilt to make I frequently will use a panel for the center and then spice it up in the borders. It is quick and easy. Then I quilt around the designs in the panel.

One LQS had a great panel fabric with a book to go with it. That turned out really cute.
