need some help with sashing

Need some suggestions on the sashing on this quilt. Is the pink too much? What kind of sashing would you do? Suggestions please and thank you. I am not sure about this one at all.

canmitch1971 05-05-2015 07:22 PM

I really like the pink.

ruthrings 05-05-2015 07:29 PM

I like the pink, but I do think it is a tad overpowering. Could you just make it narrower?

jbening 05-05-2015 07:29 PM

I like the pink also, but maybe lighter like the focus picture. It almost draws your attention away from the focus pictures which are so cute.

Baloonatic 05-05-2015 07:37 PM

What a cute bunch of blocks! I think the pink is too much, have you thought of using the purple that is on the ladies' dresses in the block middle row on the right?

janedee 05-05-2015 07:37 PM

I too find it a bit over powering, have you tried a paler pink, or even a black or white, very cute quilt

Bluebonnets 05-05-2015 08:23 PM

That's a darling quilt top going there! I'm also thinking the pink is over powering the adorable blocks. Perhaps narrower or lighter or that purplish color. A black would be nice...

Billi 05-05-2015 08:30 PM

How cute love the pink idea it's just a tad overwhelming. What if you used narrow black pink black set of strips for sashing?

JuneBillie 05-05-2015 09:59 PM

Very pretty, and maybe narrower strips would not be as overpowering.:)

JanetM 05-05-2015 10:00 PM

I would use black for the sashing.

sewbeadit 05-06-2015 01:12 AM

I love the pink and I love bright!

Babs194068 05-06-2015 02:15 AM

I would use black for sashing.

this is exactly what i was thinking, too

lovingmama 05-06-2015 02:45 AM

Beautiful quilt!

Look at the lighter pink in the apron, maybe this would make it less strong. Purple would be nice too.
The blocks are so cute, that nothing should take the attention away from it.

lovingmama 05-06-2015 02:47 AM

Looking at it again, maybe that green that's in it, would be nice too.

BrendaK 05-06-2015 03:22 AM

Love the blocks but when I first looked at the picture all I saw was the pink. Please be sure to show it when it's done. I like the idea of black or maybe white. BrendaK

PaperPrincess 05-06-2015 03:55 AM

I like the pink too, but a slightly smaller width, maybe about 3/4 of what is shown.

ManiacQuilter2 05-06-2015 04:30 AM

I like the pink but maybe a tad more of a softer pink. Try using with a slightly narrower width as suggested above.

Jordan 05-06-2015 05:31 AM

I think the pink is a bit overwhelming and takes away from your adorable blocks. What about a small black sashing? I would go with the size of sashing that is around the inner part of your blocks-it looks about 1" to 1 1/2"? The blocks are so cute and please share with us when you finish.

bearisgray 05-06-2015 06:14 AM

I like the whiteshowing between the blocks.

I agree that some separation between the blocks would be good, so we can admire each block on its own. Cute blocks!,

Could you do another picture with mabe only an inch of the color showing? Maybe with the suggestions given?

huskyquilter 05-06-2015 06:16 AM

I like the pink, if you wanted something different, I'd actually go with a deeper pink and less of a hot pink. You could also do yellow. I love black and white next to yellow. My favorite solid pink is kona honeysuckle. It's so pretty, I'm working on something that is pink and navy at the moment.

joe'smom 05-06-2015 06:20 AM

I love those blocks! I find the pink sashing too prominent. Considering how small the splashes of color are in the blocks, I think picking up any of those colors for sashing might overwhelm the blocks. I would see how it looks with white or black, or a toned-down version of one of the block colors.

lynnie 05-06-2015 08:44 AM

the hot pink really makes it pop. it brings out the pink that's in some of the blocks.

Thanks for suggestions. Have made the hot pink sashing more narrow. Here's the light pink and the black. I think I know which I like best, but let me know what you think. Majority wins. Hope this works.
That's all the colors I had on hand; that's why I only showed the three. Did try white and I didn't like it at all; a little washed out and the light pink is too. Soooooo.

SusanSusan33 05-06-2015 11:12 AM

I like the tonied-down option you posted as the follow up! That said- the black looks real nice, too!

Latrinka 05-06-2015 12:16 PM

I'll be the odd ball out, I'd use red.

mjpEncinitas 05-06-2015 12:25 PM

I vote for narrower pink strips too. I love the pink.

I was thinking the purple, too. I like the pink as a color but I think it overwhelms the cute blocks and detracts from them

justflyingin 05-06-2015 12:42 PM

I love that bright pink, but it is the first thing you see when you see these blocks. However, narrower would be perfect! They are really cute blocks!

susie-susie-susie 05-06-2015 12:42 PM

I like the narrower bright pink for the sashing. The light pink looks too washed out and the black is too dark. At first I thought black would be good, but when I see it, I don't like it. The narrow bright pink doesn't detract from the cute pictures. I like it best.

I like the hot pink, it kinda works with the hot old broads. hehehe. but I think the narrow is better

bearisgray 05-06-2015 01:27 PM

I like the narrower width. I agree the light pink looks washed out.

In my opinion, the hot pink is not the right color either - would you be able to get a shade closer to the magenta/purple in the blocks?

Or the bronze/olive green - it would separate the blocks, but not detract from the blocks like (I think) the pink does.

joe'smom 05-06-2015 02:26 PM

With the black, your block characters are the stars. I think the pink sashing draws attention from them, but they really stand out with the black. I don't think the light pink works. I think red is an intriguing color option. It would have a darker value than the pink, so wouldn't stand out as much as the pink sashing does, while still adding some color.

suern3 05-06-2015 02:41 PM

I love the bright pink in the narrower version. It just so suits those flashy ladies!

Genden 05-06-2015 03:10 PM

I like black the best.

nativetexan 05-06-2015 03:29 PM

Oh I rather like it. you could trim it a bit though. Very nice so far!

Theodora 05-06-2015 06:35 PM

Here's what I see: two bright pink strips with a narrower black between them.

barny 05-06-2015 06:53 PM

I think the pink overpowers the whole quilt. How about a small white, The blocks are sooooo cute!

BETTY62 05-06-2015 07:14 PM

I like bright colors so the pink look good to me.

frenan 05-07-2015 02:11 AM

I would see what a narrow black strip with the hot pink cornerstones looks like.
