Went to quilt class, instructor never showed up. Went home and called her when her shop opened. She never wrote it on her calendar. Rescheduled the class . Everytime I think of it, I get mad. thanks for letting me vent!!

Stitchnripper 04-06-2011 01:23 PM

Very vent-worthy!

Summer Spice 04-06-2011 01:25 PM

$3.58 a gallon gas would make me want to vent to....

craftybear 04-06-2011 01:27 PM

I would be upset also, as it was waste of your gas, time and she should make it right with you

donnajean 04-06-2011 01:27 PM

I would be so embarrassed as the instructor. Did she not offer something in return for the time, inconvenience, plus wasted gas she caused you - maybe discount on future class or quilt item?

RkayD 04-06-2011 01:30 PM

Customer service seems to becoming a thing of the past here lately. People have no honor and pride in what they do...and I'm running into it across the board. Its very discouraging at times.

frugalfabrics 04-06-2011 01:34 PM

Wonder what would happened if you forgot to pay and just showed up for a class...

TonnieLoree 04-06-2011 01:47 PM

I'd be upset too, especially since for me to get anywhere in this town, I have to ride the city bus. If I'm not at the bus stop I wave to wait around for an hour for it to come back around again. I hope she does make it up to you in some fashion. Word of mouth can be the best advertising, and also the worst. As Stitchnripper said "Vent Worthy"

moonwork42029 04-06-2011 02:03 PM

As I am a very forgetful person I can feel bad for both of you. If it's not on my calendar then it simply doesn't exist longer than the time for someone to say it. I know I have forgotten stuff and truly don't want the other party to feel their activity wasn't worth my time or memory...sometimes I simply have forgotten, plain and simple.

I feel bad you spent the time and energy to show up. Maybe she will give you a special treat in some manner. Next time, you might want to call the day before (and act sooo excited you can't wait) to double check the class and see if you need to bring anything special.

Let's be glad though it was nothing serious that happened to her or her family...it could have been much worse news.

cjomomma 04-06-2011 02:17 PM

I comportent agree with moonwork. I too am very forgetful. I have to write things down or forget about it. Reminders are always nice.

In So California we are paying over $4 a gallon, so I would really be venting :!:

patty48 04-06-2011 02:53 PM

Where was the class, and why did you have to phone the instructor? Did you arrange the class? Whoever organized this class should have phoned the instructor and all fees paid, returned on the spot!

Technically she is running a business (she rents herself out as an instructor) and that's no way to run a business think twice (and hard) on hiring her again. So unprofessional.

Here's my biggest pet peeve:

Between work, home and hobbies, my time is very valuable (and scarce). This goes with every appointment I make (try to make the "well" in advance). They insist on an appointment (oh ya, they will charge you if you miss) and I'm finding more and more do not honor the appointment time. I don't mind 5 - 10 mins late, but after that I start to steam. My time is just as valuable as their's. Do I get to charge them? Ya, not happening.

End of my "pet peeve" rant

linda701 04-06-2011 03:01 PM

The instructor scheduled the class and time so I just went when she scheduled it for . When I went the first time, she was late, never had anyone to cover the shop but her and the phone kept ringing, customer coming in so I never got much instruction . Then she could not understand why we never got anything done. Imagine that so I dont know if I want to go back. She never refunded me any money.

frauhahn 04-06-2011 03:57 PM

I definitely wouldn't take a class with her again!

Painiacs 04-06-2011 03:59 PM

I hope the day was beautiful and the drive was nice at least!

sueisallaboutquilts 04-06-2011 04:01 PM

Oh no!! Sorry this happened :(

Try $4.09

I think actually that I would be more disappointed than mad. Hope you'll enjoy the class when it finally does get off the ground.

I agree with you...our gas is $3.79 at regular stations and $3.67 at Sam's club......$65 to fill up today

lalaland 04-06-2011 08:48 PM

Ok, you gave it a second chance, which was very generous of you considering your first experience. I would have led a revolt half way through the first class.

Since she's trying to do these classes herself, and had no one watching her shop during the first class, she's probably trying to keep her head above water by fulfilling the roll of shop keeper and teacher at the same time, but taking your money and giving you partial time and hit and miss instruction is a crime!!

I'd ask for my money back. I'd tell her I had the time for when the class was originally scheduled and I was there, unfortunately I'm unable to make your rescheduled class time so please refund my money. If she refuses and you end up taking the rescheduled class and you get the same partial time and hit and miss instruction, I would be noisy about it during the class and I bet others would be as well.

BETTY62 04-06-2011 09:16 PM

What a way to run a business. Hope you didn't have to pay in advance.

jitkaau 04-07-2011 02:59 AM

I once drove one and a half hours to a scheduled class only to find the class had been cancelled. they had told everyone except for me, who lived the furthest away.I had spoken to them by phone the day before but they did not mention it and then they got cranky with me because I cancelled the following classes. In other words, I know exactly how you feel and I would advise that you do as I did and shake the dust from your feet and walk to the next place. This generally teaches them to lift their game.

DianneRab 04-07-2011 03:05 AM

Frustrations aside, do we know the real reason she was late? None of us really know what happens when something does not go the way as planned. First time benefit of the doubt, but I would call in advance before I attend any more classes. Free time is valuable I like to spend mine working on projects and that doesn't happen often. So, let us know how the next class goes.
Best Wishes with your project, I know it will be beautiful.
Dianne

This happened to me once and as an apology the instructor gave us a second free class. Hope yours does the same!

We all forget ... though this is the instructor!
There should be no need of a reminder from the class member required ... maybe the store's responsibility, not the student.

beachlady 04-07-2011 05:20 AM

Sounds like she needs an assistant.

ThreadHead 04-07-2011 05:46 AM

Gas Prices------Supply and Demand-----Solution---use only what you need. Ride your bike, or walk when you can.

Get your ducks in a row, plan your driving schedule, make ONE round trip..Get'r done!

Only thing is, everyone has to do it, and most people won't.

One of my friends told me that he didn't care what the cost of gas was as long as he could get it. Look what that type of thinking has done to us.
I told him that I cared. Told him he was full of gas.
We have plenty of oil, don't let them fool you. It's all about money. They have it, we don't.

Raggiemom 04-07-2011 05:48 AM

I'm sorry :(

mhansen6 04-07-2011 06:13 AM

The class should now be free or if you paid up front she should refund your money.

sunrise450 04-07-2011 06:15 AM

I so agree and so embarrasing. I even forget names. I will be introducing or even speaking to someone (family included) and when I get to the name, I draw a blank.

I absolutely do not blame you for your anger/frustration. I understand 100%.

I would swear your address should be Rock Springs, WY. Has happened more than once here. I vented but also quit frequenting her store and classes.

Iamquilter 04-07-2011 06:45 AM

This has nothing to do with quilting but years ago when I was still working I had a Dr.'s appt. Have to take off of work to go, told me I should be there 10 to 15 minutes early to fill out some papers which only took a few minutes. Sat in the waiting room for what seemed like ages before I was put into a room. Sat there for over an hour, opened the door and asked some nurses in the hall if I had been forgotten, said someone will be with you in a few minutes, waited some more, finally after another half hour the Dr. came in. When I got the bill I wrote them back and said I was not paying them , they should pay me. Explained I took off of work etc.etc. Never had to pay the bill. You should get money back if she never showed up.

GrammaBabs 04-07-2011 06:48 AM

too many businesses and offices.... have gotten to the point where "oops,, sorry",,,, has become more common than it should... i keep trying to tell my friends and relatives.. DOUBLE CHECK everything.. NEVER take for granted that something is done in a timely manner or as promised... it's not fair and a PITA... but every time i really need something... i call to be sure it was done.. 80% of the time it's NOT... very sad, but lucky me.. i'm retired and have lots of time to do this... i just sit and remember fondly all the comments i used to get regarding how thorough i was or how proactive... anywhoo (yes, and i do realize that i now just ramble and don't use "caps" or proper punc... i just have fun and dance to my own drummer,,, but NEVER make a promise i won't keep, or give a simple "sorry" for an honest mistake... Harken Up"... people.. your business is going to suffer!!! :)

Right there with you on this one! Fill up after every trip too! Know exactly how much the trips cost me and that is the decider. Time to get out an old horse, 'cept they eat hay and that has gone up too. Well, Bicycle next when the knees are better after total replacement!

It's downright stupid how so many adults think saying Oh, my bad in place of an apology will make things right. Most don't feel ashamed about being thoughtless. It's just oh whatever, giggle giggle. DH said the phrase my bad was used to excuse such stupid mistakes at work, the last intern was fired on the spot by saying it and shrugging his shoulders, like so what, to the wrong man in charge. LOL.

$3.58 a gallon for gas???? I'm moving to Tennessee.
Here where I live in Southern Oregon gas is now $3.83 a gallon.

scaroca 04-07-2011 08:13 AM

I would have been mad to. It amazes me how some people stay in business.

brendadawg 04-07-2011 08:21 AM

Same thing happened to me once when I was learning how to use my embroidery machine. Instructor forgot to write down the last class, the one where you finally learn a little bit about the embroidery machine. She was over an hour late, came in all flustered, no notes, etc. Thought she would just go past the time we were supposed to stop -- but I had another appointment. So I just lost out on that, with no apology or offer to re-do. Needless to say, I felt their attitude -- "got your $, we don't care about you any more". Ask me did I buy my new machine there last year? I don't think so!!!!!!!!!!!!
