I am SO EXCITED! In a few hours I go to pick up my new Bernina 820 QE. I traded in my Bernina 730 E but never used the embroidery. They gave me a great deal. I just turned 71 so this is a birthday present from me to me.

I could never really get enthusiastic or feel creative doing machine embroidery. It's just me.

The new machine THREADS THE NEEDLE and the bobbin pokes out where I can reach it. I have been having more and more trouble with both actions.

Well congratulations on your buy, you must be very excited, and I don't blame you! I have to say I'm a little green, I would love a Bernina.

Looking forward to a review and seeing some of your work!

rusty quilter 05-11-2011 03:47 AM

You will love it! I just bought one in February and am still getting used to all of the bells and whistles. It does free motion quilting like a dream--if you practice, practice and practice some more...

I hope the new machine is fantastic for you! What a wonderful treat you're giving yourself!

nursie76 05-11-2011 12:07 PM

Congrats! I just know you will love it! DH got me the 830 LE for my bday in April and I have been having a blast! Traded my 730 in too...

Take the mastery classes as soon as you can, they sure give you some great tips...Oh and just in case they don't tell you, you shouldn't pull the thread out backward on this machine (you know, grab the spool and pull off machine) you need to snip the thread where it goes into the machine and then pull the thread end out from the needle....something about doing that too much will mess up the auto thread thingy.....just love the auto threader!!!

Kat29803 05-11-2011 02:37 PM

Lessons whenever I want, all the phone calls I want, and got some FREE STUFF too.

Wow, what a fabulous gift, tell yourself you are one lucky lady to give yourself such a nice gift...hahaha. Happy birthday! I have a bernina 165, I love my bernina. Enjoy your new toy.

so-sew 05-12-2011 03:12 AM

Good for you! :-D I have the 820 and every time I sit down before her, I fall more in love. Only one problem....I think I love her TOO much, because I live in constant fear and dread of the day she dies. I know this is (hopefully) decades away, but how will I ever adjust to loosing her?

Jaos 05-12-2011 03:14 AM

Congratulations and Happy Birthday!

Traditional 05-12-2011 04:12 AM

Happy Birthday and good luck. I took mine in a/c auto needle threader got stuck. Got that fixed and found out about bobin threading. Get to those classes. It will save your nerves. LOL

I wish Bernina would take trade ins as I have a serger, a Bernina 931 and a 1630....I would like to trade one of mine in so I could get the Bernina that you got.......hmmm, well, enjoy and by the way 71 is not old, I am 71 also and will keep on going forever. Have a great day.

My Bernina dealer takes trades. When my DH made the deal to get my 830, my Juki and frame and Bernina 730 was traded. Once, I traded a Janome Jem silver edition in on my travel machine, a Bernina 330. Worth a try for you.

It'll be ok, by then she'll have had a good long life and Bernina will have come out with a new model. tee hee

Rachel 05-12-2011 05:37 AM

I also have a 730 and have been eyeing the 830 since the day it came out. Now I see they have a red, special edition, wish I could afford it, but maybe someday! Congrats on your new machine. I'm sure you'll love it!

grannypat7925 05-12-2011 05:41 AM

Trade ins are a dealer incentive, not related to the manufacturer. If your dealer won't take a trade in, try finding a new dealer.

fish92241 05-12-2011 09:19 AM

I have the Bernina 435, which is the same as the 440QE except it's 9mm for the decorative stitches instead of 5mm. It is a pleasure to use and enjoy every minute of sewing on it. Congratulations on your 830. I've seen them when I took my lessons (which I took twice!).

Kas 05-12-2011 09:29 AM

Happy Birthday! I am a bit jealous! I would love those extra inches in the throat, but I will just have to keep cramming my quilts into the smaller space on my 640. Congrats!

baglady65 05-12-2011 09:30 AM

I have the 830 too......what a great sewing machine!!

That's weird. My old dealer and my new shop both take tradeins on Berninas. I agree that finding a different dealer would be the key.

lonestardreams 05-12-2011 09:47 AM

My dealer took my Bernina 125 in trade for a 380 just last month. I then helped her sell the trade in by sending a friend that had been in search of a used Bernina. It worked out for all of us. I agree that another dealer might work with you.

ggreenridley 05-12-2011 10:38 AM

Have fun. It is always good to be good to yourself.

mzmama 05-12-2011 11:55 AM

Have fun

kwiltnutt 05-12-2011 12:36 PM

Congrats! I am green as well. If I had a spare $10,000 I would buy one too. I am a diehard Bernina fan and currently have an Aurora QE. Have fun!
