Good job! I like blocks that create secondary patterns. Yours could be colored in several ways to take advantage of this. Please post pictures when you finish. You might consider taking pictures as you work, so you can post a tutorial - or include them in a pattern to sell.

Very nice block, not familiar to me. Love the secondary pattern, great job!

I had to chuckle when I read your post. I design my own purses and every time I do, I wonder if there is already a pattern out there like it. Also make my own clothing patterns sometimes. Since I don't sell anything, it really doesn't matter, but I always wonder if something I've created is really mine, or did I see it someplace sometime. Your quilt pattern is lovely, and one I would consider buying. Good luck with it!

I spend an awful lot of time looking at quilt patterns and it's not familiar to me, I think you have an original block. It's very nice, I like the way it goes together in the quilt.

Of course, now that you have posted the block for the entire world to see, your odds of success in defending a copyright for the block itself are somewhere between slim and none. If you write a pattern, don't publicize it before you register the copyright. Here's an overview of how to do that.
http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-register.html
It's $35 to file online, $65 to file paper forms. Current e-filing processing time is roughly 2.7 months (paper filing is 6.1 months).

Where can one apply for a copyright and is the process expensive?

Nice block. Very nice secondary pattern when they are put together. Thanks for sharing.

Your block is awesome! I can't imagine designing my own block. I'm lucky if I can follow a pattern.

Looks lovely. Keep us informed!

but register the copyright. It costs very little and then you will have full protection. Just dating and putting the sign on it is not sufficient. I could copy the design from your posting here......apply for the copyright tomorrow and get it then it would be mine and not yours.
