Be sure to have plenty of lighting, and wall outlets. This will allow you to arrange your tables and storage cabinets several different ways.
The arrangement you choose now, may need to change later if your needs change in the future, such as buying a longarm set-up. Have fun in such a large space  |
If I had it to do over I'd have counters around my entire room with storage shelves under it for fabric & supplies. But I wish for more counter space...........

The thing I love the best is that my cutting table can be accessed from 3 sides...which is huge to saving shoulder and back issues! you can see some photos on my blog www.wooliemammoth.blogspot.com you might have to go back a few days to find a photo. Congrats on creating a space!

If you can decide where your iron will be put that outlet on a switch by the door. Then you never have to worry about the iron auto shutoff not working and causing problems. Oh and I put picture rail at the top of my walls in the sewing room. Everything hangs from that, my pegboard organizer and the design wall and bullitin board. That way I have total freedom to redecorate anytime I want.

cable, phone and ethernet connections Even though you might not want your computer in that room, it is always easier to do these in the beginning stages. I like to at least listen to TV when I sew.

Perhaps an exterior door in case you start a business.

What a wonderful DH. Good luck. Fabulous suggestions.

Outlets for irons, lamps, tv, computer, machines, etc. Shelving for books/mags. Natural light. I want a closet w/doors so I don't have to worry about fading fab and dust.

Judy,
I have carpet in my sewing room also. I love the carpet but hate the mess I have to "pick" off the rug before I can run the vacuum. I almost wished I would have done just area rugs. But I still LOVE my carpet! |
I think i only saw this once - but have a space for a large design wall. I wish i had space for that.
I do love my ironing board and cutting table at standing height - no more sore back. Speaking of ironing board - large enough space to iron what you're working on....Bed size quilts are harder to iron on a regular board. |
